Awesome. Moral dilemma for Jack, Locke turns around on his never tell anyone anything policy, and a truimphant return for the black smoke.
    Poor Eko though :(
EDIT: Also; guy with an eye patch? It's like they've been reading my wish list.

Lost is really starting to annoy me, it's allways a cliffhanger at the end, but these days they're so stupid and so bizzare that it makes so little sense and turns you off. You really have to read into ait a lot to get any meaning out of it. And it's just getting boring.

Nooooooooooo!!!! Why did they have to go and do that!, eko was my favourite character by a long way(as im sure for a lot of others too) Ugh this show is annoyin me now, yeah only now i know. Actually i suppose it was a fairly good episode except for the flashbacks which weren't great, and the end of course, there was no point, no real emotion to it. But i'd imagine episode 6 is gonna be good since its the last before the break, bastards makin everyone come back for more

i must say that it twas a good enough episode, got a big chill down my spine when the smoke that took the form of ekos brother(anyone else with me on this) said you speak to me as if i was your brother.

I think juliet is lieing though, shes dodgey makes me think that ben is actually a nice guy and when she gets in command that stuff is gonna get really ****ty for the losties.

Also the dude with the eyepatch, 5/1 odds says hes not with the others, any takers?

Cant belive they killed off Eco, what a dose! What the hell is the story with that black smoke anyway?!

I like the situation Jack has found himself in tho, I think I'd be inclined to go with Juilet but will Jack be able to knowingly sabotage an operation?!

Those 2 new characters parachuted into the plot all of a sudden get to accompany the trip to the Pearl? Grrr! Smells like a Itchy & Scratchy; Poochie scenario, me no like. Bird's fine though.

"you speak to me as if i was your brother" liked that.

I thought it was a really good episode the best yet. Disappointed with Eko getting killed of but at the same time it shows they aren't afraid to kill off characters that are popular. Kinda like 24.
I also think the black smoke is responsible for, not just Yemmi but all the hallucinations: Jack's father, Dave, Kate's Horse. That's probably why Jacks fathers body was missing like Yemmi's so the black smoke can take it's form. It also ties in with the repentence theme running through the show. When Eko said he wasn't sorry for what he done then it got angry. Also the flashback had some relevance to the main story of Eko getting killed. It showed that even though he 'became' a priest he still hadn't totally turned away from being the old badass Eko into a morally good duy like Yemmi.
I can't see Jack killing Ben. All we've seen of him in the flashbacks (God knows there's been enough of then:rolleyes: ) is that he's really serious when it comes to being a doctor and will do anything for his patients. See the girl who was shot last week. Also I'd say Juliette's turn at the end of the episode could just be a mind phuck. If he tells her thats he's going to mess up the operation on Ben then they won't let him go through with it. Of course she could be telling the truth!!!
I think we've finally laid to rest the 'Losties were brought to the island by the Others' idea. Ben said it himself that 2 days after he was diagnoised with a tumour a spinal surgeon falls from the sky. No way could they have pulled of the plane crash in two days.
And the guy with the eyepatch a nice WTF moment from Lost.

A decent enough episode this one, but still have that nagging feeling that it’s all moving too slowly. With the plot they’ve conjured up, they have the potential to make this brilliant, but the artificially slow pace is off-putting.

That said, good episode. We have Ben’s group saying they’re not killers (or was that ep4?), and then we have the smoke killing Eko (seemingly for not repenting). Makes me think there’s defo a 3rd group involved – Ben’s group, the losties, and then whoever/whatever is or controls the black smoke. Could be that 3rd group who brought the losties to the island. That 3rd group is likely Dharma or something to do with it, and I’m reckoning that Ben’s group are looking more and more like a splinter group that formerly had something to do with Dharma.

Not trusting Julie one bit. Liked the con on Sawyer.

Eko wrecked my head so glad to see him gone. New chick is well hot but yeh, the poochie reference is spot on.

Did anyone notice the dude with the eye patch had on a set of overalls like the ones Desmond and Kelvin wore. You could even make out the edge of a Dharma station logo on it.

Also there's no way Jack will intentionally kill Ben. It would be completly out of character (but then maybe that's the moment that Carlton Cruise was talking about when he said something will happen to make people think the show has "Jumped the Shark").

Love the Poochie reference, let the dude be next for a meeting with the black smoke but keep the girl.

OK a couple of things - why did Ben mention Juliet looking like Jack's wife? What was that about?

Also - I'd say the guy with the eyepatch could be the owner of the glass eye that they found in the abandoned hatch sometime near the start of series 2.

And didn't Juliet say she was sorry for bringing Jack here? Did she mean to the prison he's currently in or to the island?

It's obvious to me that he is in one of the as of yet undiscoverd stations(by the Losties anyway). Presumably he would be in a station similar to the Swan in importance and setup. It's possible he could be controlling the black smoke but I find that unlikely as the black smoke was messing around with Eko when he turned of the camera.

The should have Rastafied the dude by ten percent or so.

OK a couple of things - why did Ben mention Juliet looking like Jack's wife? What was that about?
It was Ben's plan to gain Jack's trust and win him over to the side of the Others. To gain his trust the Others used Juliet to essentially come onto to Jack and turn him. They used her because she looked like Jacks wife and therefore they presumed she would be his type.
And didn't Juliet say she was sorry for bringing Jack here? Did she mean to the prison he's currently in or to the island?

To prison the Others did not bring the Losties to the island, the Others did not crash the plane, the Others knew nothing about the Losties until they landed on the island. If they knew all about the Losties before they crashed they wouldn't have risked sending Ethan and Goodwin to both camps.
Now it's possible a third group (shall we call them Dharma scientists, including Pirate No Eye) brought the Losties there but I'm still not sold on that idea. Maybe to fight the Others, maybe to be new subjects for their experiments

I still think somebody or something had to have brought the group to the island (not just Desmond setting off the electro magnetic thingy).. Why else do we get shown flashbacks and the links between the characters all the time??

Good episode but me no like Lost without Eko. Also I don't trust Juliet for a second. Somethings up there.

I heard that the actor who plays Eko wanted out, so they killed him. The "Tailies" really didn't work out - all dead now bar Bernard (wherever he's been lately).

Yer one is hot, but she's no Kate.;)

Dunno what people are saying I thought this was the best episode of the series and one of the less confusing (if that makes sense). Loved the bit with Juliet and Jack. Chances are it's not what it seems and it's another mind game to try and suss out Jack - see if he would kill Ben or not. One of the boards Juliet was holding up in the film said "Some of us want change" - I don't get a feeling of this. Danny (the violent guy who beat up Sawyer) and his wife didn't seem to want change...I can only see Alex wanting change. Speaking of Alex, I hope there's more of her and Danielle this series...maybe they get reunited?...

Why would Ben explain himself so much and why explain his plan (to Jack)? Seems like the tension between Jack and Juliet is also put on. Though there clearly is some history between them. But here's hoping that Juliet is telling the truth. Hopefully they'll all escape and Juliet will come back to camp with them and maybe explain a bit more about whats going on. Of course, a bit more exciting action before they manage to escape...

Thought the bit in the Pearl was excellent. Why does that guy with the eyepatch look so familiar??? (Maybe from the Lost Experiance? Don't actually follow it really though.) Wonder what station that is and what he'll be like. Obviously not one of the others..

I hate the new characters I hope they die. :p They're just annoying - have no character to them, too full on in this episode. Neither of them are hot either!

Speaking of death, I'm glad they killed Eko off - means they won't have to kill too many other people. I thought he was very interesting but I'm glad we saw this. Thought the ending was great - there wasn't a huge cliffhanger dunno what people are on about. The black smoke was savage, I'm glad it's back. One thing though, did Eko say "We're next" or "You're next"? (Hoping it's the first one cos I don't want the smoke to get Locke!)

    THEORY

Ok I know the Purgatory theory has been ruled out and I think (and hope so) too, but with this episode...it's looking clearer. Way back in series 1 I thought the monster/black smoke was the thing that brought people to hell because remember when it tried to drag Locke down a hole once....?

Anyway, the black smoke is responsible for the visions. There's definitely a Locke/Eko thing going on; 2 men of faith, one black one white, one from one side of the island one from the other, reunited, both 'responsible' for someones death, both had visions of that person on the island...etc. I think because Eko would not confess his 'sins' the black smoke killed him and brought him to hell.

Can't wait for next episode (there's one more, right?). It better be a good one because it's gonna be a long wait :(

    A whopping 9/10 for me.

I agree with the link between them. Eko said he saw a black light (the black smoke, evil etc etc) while Locke said he saw a white light. Good vs evil again.

one thing i don't get about Locke's account. He said what he saw was great, a beautiful thing. That's fair enough when you take into account the early episodes of season 1, but at the season 1 finale, he saw the monster again, looked scared/freaked out, ran away and it grabbed him, even though he told Jack to let him go. now, does Locke think this is the same monster or what?, becauses it was smoke that time, made the same noise... i think Locke's been at the home made glue again...

Did anybody think that at some point the black smoke looked like a polar bear and then an elephant/trunk of an elephant?

This is probably completely off the wall, but maybe the black smoke has something to do with the tests that were done on the animals??

Hope they do a Bobby Ewing on him. He was by far the most interesting character, the epsiode on his background in Nigeria was the best! rest in peace Mr Eko.

I only liked him when he was dishing out pain to the others, I think he would have really helped the lost people later in season 3. Still Im getting sick of the religious undertones/references in the LOST episodes and Im glad he is gone before his church is built and he goes off converting the others.

He was one of the best characters by far.
He had other projects lined up so his stint on Lost was always going to be short.
So only 1 survivor from the tail of the plane left .

Haha, very true. Id just like to point this out. How did the guy with the eyepatch happen to be looking into a camera on a wall and break it, right as they figure out how to view other stations. What if they were a second later???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Miguel_Sanchez

The eyepatch guy noticed they were watching him through the camera (did it pan a bit to the right?) and turned off or disconnected the camera.

Also - I think Locke was talking about the light that shone out of the hatch at him as opposed to the smoke. Or maybe I'm wrong?

Those two new characters seemed like canon fodder to me - remember Arzt?
But maybe that was just to throw us off the scent.
Best episode of the series so far - getting back into the flow of things.

I think what Locke is referring to is what he saw when the hatch exploded. Eko, Locke, and Desmond all survived and "changed" when they returned, I think Locke saw something beautiful, and he expected Eko and Desmond to have seen the same thing.

Locke mentioned seeing a white light, something beautiful. Was this because he had the chance to kill that young cop and decided not to? Whereas Eko made the other decision.

The black smoke tried to drag Locke off at the end of Season one while he was blaming himself for the death of Boone. Although, that probably isn't connected.

RIP Eko. You'll be missed :(

On another note, did anyone feel compassion for Ben. There was a genuine look of pain and anguish on his face talking to Juliet about the xrays and then to Jack. I hope Jack saves his life.

By the way, reading an interview with Michael Emerson in the RTE Guide, it seems his character was only intended to last three episodes. Yet more proof the writers are making it up as they go along...

I think that maybe he has has taken on a role that was originally intended for someone else (Zeke perhaps) due to his performances and his popularity with fans. I dont think its a bad thing that the writers might adapt certain things as they go. I would say they had a begining, an end and some major plot points to begin with and now they are just adapting things depending on fan reactions and what works/does not work etc.

    1. Eye patch guy + glass eye found by tail section survivors + blood on ceiling of original hatch = Radzinski

    2. Better repent your ways when given the opportunity

    3. Nikki = hot hot hot

    4. Bob Dylan messaging from yur one was lame

    5. Liked Syiad just popping back on the beach, don't need spoonfeeding, I'm sure we'll find out later

    6. Nikki = nice rack

    7. Eco = Big loss, his flashbacks were ver good, he's like the first character to go full circle in story line, we know him from early days, turning bad, turning good'ish, all the way to his death because of the island...
