Connecting XP Home to domain

So we are installing a Windows Server Box in the office and I need to get my development PC on the new network. Problem is that it's XP HOME. I don't want to reformat and re-install everything, so my options are:

    1) Tweak XP Home to somehow connect to the domain
    2) Upgrade XP Home using an Home > Pro Upgrade CD.

Any comments on the above options, or anything else that would help me out.

    CHEERS

XP home just doesn't connect to domains , you can access some of the domains services, i.e. file shares alright , but authentication and other things won't work.

Personally if your looking for a properly maintanable decent setup i'd get the XP Home -> Pro upgrade.....

Any major documented issues with this approach?

What services do you need ?

to run logon scripts - create a one line batch file in startup

    if exist \\Server\netlogon\logon.bat \\Server\netlogon\logon.bat

Remember that even windows 95 could logon to a domain and run logon scripts, so it's just an artifical restriction in XP home, and also if you upgrade OEM home the PRO is now stuck to the same motherboard and can't be moved ever again.

I'd need to be able to logon to the domain and take advantage of the user access permissions and other server based goodies. This is a DELL XP HOME box.

    which other goodies ?

file / print share not a problem
dns / dhcp / ftp etc.

if you create an account with the same name and password on the Home PC as on the domain it makes life very easy

    net use x: \\server /user:domain\%username%
