    Hi,

Wondering if anyone has got Sky+ and digiweb's metro phone working?

If not is it simply a case of a once-off "no-phone" install penalty and then everything works bar pay-per-year ordering?

Many thanks in advance for help on this matter.

I think there was threads on the Broadband forum that said that Sky boxes will work with Digiweb Metro.

Watty I think was able to get it to work.

    It works.
    1) Mirror subs MUST use the same socket via a splitter as the two sockets will allow different calls out at same time, which will fail mirror sub :)

    2) Fax or other device in socket 2 MUST only have two middle wires, red & green. Not the outer yellow/black (Both telephone lights flash madly and you can't use it it you have a problem). Connection phone flexes with only 2wires are easy to get, or carefully cut the outer two ONLY if the Tel lights flash madly.

    3) You don't need to change any settings, I got that bit arranged ;)

    4) There is no warrenty :) but then again eircom only g'tee voice too!

Sorry for the uneducated question but what is a mirror sub?
    Is it a second skybox?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

No. YOu can have that and NO sub!

It is a 2nd box and €15 extra and the 2nd viewing card gives exactly the same package as the first, no matter if 21 Euro or 78 Euro etc.

So both boxes must be automatically electronically verified to be at same address via a single phone line.

You can have an ordinary sub (no phone line) or no sub on a 2nd, 3rd , 20th Digibox.

I read in PCLive a few months ago that they were nearly ready to launch a "quadruple play" service to rival the likes of Magnet. I'm guessing TV and video on demand must be the other 2 services.
I guess this isnt the forum for this though :)

    Hi,
I have a Sky+ box downstairs and a multiroom upstairs. Had a landline, cancelled that and got Digiweb in Dec.
Got a letter from Sky re: no telephone connection for the multiroom. Last successful callback for Sky+ was Feb this year, and failed callback for multiroom last Dec. My no. (Digiweb) when i rang customer support was appearing as withheld and I was advised to check with Digiweb to see what the prefix that they is. After some research, it seems that 142 is the carrier selection number for eircom and that 141 for other carriers. So I tried 141 for both boxes and both callbacks failed.
Also, with the telephone connection in one, it doesn't register as being connected on the other box. So there seems to be no linkage between them.
Rang Digiweb to ask about prefix and they said that they hadn't that service (?). And that to sort out my problem they needed the no. used by Sky for the callback. Asked Sky for no. and they won't give it out.
has anyone sorted out this problem?
    Help!

You MUST plug both boxes into the SAME phone connection on the Metro, or else they look like they are in different places :(

(i.e. both in tel1, not one box in each socket).

You should not need any prefixes. Dial your mobile or a friend with a CLI display (from your Metro) and you should see your own number.

By default ALL Metro lines always identify.

If the sky boxes are plugged into Tel1 AND Tel2 I am sure callback fails as you can dial on both sockets at the same time!

(Ooops I v'e exposed part of how Sky "know" the boxes are on the same line :) )

    Watty thanks for that!
I've both boxes now connected to Tel 1 on metro modem using a splitter.
Still having problems calling back though although the digibox recognises that there is a telephone connection.
    Any ideas?

I'm using a VOIP ATA with an irish "landline" VOIP number from www.smart076.ie
Will this work with a sky box as a "landline"?

    Unlikely. Or erratically.

It's got to do with codecs & QOS. Smart can't do QOS on 3rdparty ISP

There is a menu option to send Sky an Email via Digibox. Either in Setup or Interactive..

Try that. It displays the line & sending status as you progress. May need more than one attempt.

    Try each box in turn.

If that does not work on either box a connection or setting is wrong.
IF it works on one box, metro is OK, but one phone cable bad.
(make sure only two middle wires connect. The two outer ones may be for UK system and interfere. You can get a phone cord with two wires or carefully cut the yellow & black outer pair on each cable).

If both connect then it will succeed eventually.

You can test your metro by PC modem on etheir Tel1 or Tel2. It might not work on some modems that are really sound cards if "com port" is 115,000 baud (default) set it to 38,400 or 19,200

    Thanks Watty.
Neither work - got cables with 4 wires...so will get 2 wires cables and check.
Checked the settings for the communications ports, both are at 9600 bits per second with 8 data bits? is that the setting you mean? if so should 9600 be ok?
in any case will try the 2 wire cables and see if that works.......
    thanks!!:)

By the way where would I get two wire cables...
PC world out of all telephone cables - whats the run on these for???
Peats - seem to be 4 wire only.......
Had a look at the plastic ends to try to take them off to cut the wires......can't make out how to take them off and put them back on......(obviously not a technical person!).....

just snip a piece from the outside of the cord.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

You can check that on a Sky+??

I managed 42K on dialup to Eircom.

    Thanks for the help Watty!!!
I finally got it sorted. First off cut the outer two wires on the telephone cables.
So it worked for Sky+ but not multiroom.
Finally it dawned on me that the multiroom for some reason was retaining the prefix 141 for the callback and it took me a while to figure out that the red button on the remote resets that to clear it. Once I did that the multiroom was sorted as well.
    So finally all sorted!
    thanks :D
