    Hi,

I currently have 1GB of compact flash for my 350D, when I'm shooting in RAW this becomes a problem. I am looking at getting 2GB or 4GB depending on what I can afford.

shop4memory has a 4GB Transcend card for 122E. They also have Kingston as a make and sandisk. I have heard of sandisk and have used a usb drive of theirs with no problem. Does anyone have any experience of Transcend or Kingston? Are they as reliable as their more expensive cousins?

    Thanks
    B

    Never heard of them.

Sandisk are very good, as are Lexar.

Check the price of 2 2gig cards compared to the 4 gig. If it works out around the same price, I'd go with having two 2 gigs, just incase one goes corrupt :)

theres 2GB cards here from 70 euro

Kingston and SanDisk would probably be the best from them, but not to say Transcend is no good

In general cards are grand so just check the specs [write speed etc]

I've got a Transcend USB memory stick and a couple of SD cards from them and haven't had any bother. I have a 2GB Kingston in my D70s, and also no bother. In fact I've never had any kind of bother with any make of memory card, ever, so take from that what you will!

I have two Transcend cards bought from shop4memory. 1GB and 2GB. Never had a problem although sometimes they can be a bit slow dumping to the camera, but I shoot lots of sequences in quick succession, so it mightn't be a problem for you.

    Must get me a sandisk

    8gig microdrive

never used it but seems good

only thing I have heard is that it might drain battery quick
Theres a list of compatable cmaeras there too

    one thing thou...
I've got 4G Lexar one - not on me now.
with 350D startup time (or wakeup time) takes anywhere from 10 to 15 seconds. Can't do anything untill it finshes initing cf. Looks like it's reading MFT or something.
1G cards are ok there. And on 30D it's ok as well.
So my advice try before you buy.

Kingston are well known for making RAM so I'm sure they're okay.

just remember a camera can't write any fast than bout 40x so paying extra for a faster card is silly unless you us the card for something else also. microdrives are highly unstable compared to other flash based memory. transend and kingston are mainstream names with good track records

I'm not sure about that, but i do know that according to this chart

    http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-8197

If I spent the extra €150 to get the high end card, I would save about 2 seconds every time I shoot 10 consecutive RAW files (at 15meg each).

I figure I've wasted at least 10 seconds of my life on that decision.

I have 2 of those Transcend 4gig 120x BTW, they're fine....unless you REALLY value your time or shoot in very demanding situations.

    * my maths maybe off there...someone feel free to correct me if I'm off by .5 second or more. :)

    TwinMOS 140X 2GB 4.371MB/sec
    Hoodman PPO 150X-133X 2GB 7.865MB/sec

    Lexar High-Speed 40X Write Acceleration 1GB 5.310MB/sec

    those speeds are theoretical...

also the write speeds are completely irrelevent if ya don't fill the buff(which can be up to 15 shots)

Not sure will many cameras take more than 4Gb, I know some have problems with 8 anyway.
