I must admit I know little about it. Has anyone here gone to any point to point meetings and what are they like? Are there any 'tracks' near Dublin?

    Thanks.

Havent being to one in a good while, they are great craic :)
They tend to be pretty much anywhere they get permission and there is enough room. Punchestown used to have a few throughout the year, kilbeggen, salthill, just keep your eye out for signs. These things tend to be advertised in local papers and notices stuck up around shops. They run steeplechases too ( was at one down out galway somewhere that actually was a steeplechase i.e. from one church to another)

The Jock is a fairly regular point to point goer of my memory serves me right. It's over a year now since I've been to one, but the ones in Clare and Galway are certainly of no interest to you Wayne, giving your location.

They are... eh they're OK. They are good for spotting upcoming jockeys and are much better than watching the likes of Eastenders on a Sunday! Whenever I have went it hasn't been planned but always was a good enough day out. I'm good mates with Jason Titley and he often has a few runners at Point to Point meetings, and when he does I usually go to them. With finishing the last year of college recently I didn't get much chance to go, but I'll make ammends for that now. Doesn't beat a day at the likes of Clonmel or Thurles though.

the point in stradbally is usually a great day out but dont expect any creature comforts u have to brave the elements but always a bit of craic to be had -the good thing is u can wander around and stand quite close to the fences around the track so useful to spot good jumpers up close -

franco hughes is the main bookie at points i think and he will take bets on other meetings also he used to have a portable satalite hooked up to a telly in the field so u could watch other racing if haveing a bet with him -and there is usually a beer tent to be found -hot whiskey and hot port
