Ok, not a big Mac user, Just got my first one last week 2nd hand.

Can someone tell me how to burn dvds on a pc to bring stuff over to a mac that it will accept it? every dvd I have burned on my PC containing files I've burned on using my PC have been spat back out.

Its a G5 mac I think its running OS 9? cant be sure, I was given a CD with it that is meant to have TIGER on it, but the MAC is spitting that CD out aswell. I popped the official restore CD or the extras cd and it accepted them.

So how does one burn for mac? or is it something else I am missing?

Why you using CD's/DVD's? They'll just end up as coasters after you're finished with em..

My advice, crossover network cable, or external storage.

Crossover net cables are very handy, can buy one for about a fiver these days, basically creates a virtual network between computers. Turn on Windows File Sharing in System Preferences > Sharing and you should be easily able to connect to the host PC. Plenty of google-d info about this kind of stuff.

Let me know how you get on.

time is sort of against me (and money) so its something I can do now, rather then heading into town looking for cables.

The external storage might be an idea, I have one, but its on loan from a friend who tells me it only works with macs (he could be wrong, i'll take a peak now)

back on the DVDS, it seems to be only the ones that have been burned, every other DVD I have thrown in has responded (from LA confidential to boot discs, to music cds.)

anyway i'll report back once I check to see if the external hard drive works.

BlitzKrieg, is it possible the mac can't read dvdr? Cause OS9 was well gone by the time the G5s came out, which means it might actually be a G4 and may only have a CD/DVD-ROM drive.

I was wrong about it running OS 9

funny story aabout that...I booted it up for the first time, looked in its application folder, saw some of them had (OS 9) after them, and went *sh*t gotta install Tiger*

turned out I was wrong, those were files for if you wanted classic OS9 appearance or something? cause its OS10.4

anywho one theory is the dvd's i'm using are far too cheap and crappy hence I dug out a more fancy DVD -RW with its own case and all to try and see if this work.

Also the External Hard Drive was MAC only, my PC didnt even aknowledge its existence.

Blitz, if you click on the little Apple icon on the top left corner then a window of options will appear, click on the option About This Mac and it will tell you the type of chip and operating system the Mac runs with. Try that and come back to us and I will know somebody can help you all the way from there.
