Xbox Live connection problems

    Hey,

Everything was going fine until the other night I turned off the 360 to watch some tv and when I turned it on again, it wouldnt connect to Live. So I left it till yesterday and it still wouldn't connect. Did the tests and it says the the network adaptor is disconnected. Checked the Ethernet cable and its grand (tried it with a different cable that definitely worked and it still wouldn't connect). So I rang Support and they said because its going through a Belkin router, that was more than likely the problem. So...

Any suggestions as to how to sort this would be great, as I dont really know much about this kind of thing. The router seems to be fine, the dad's pc in the other room is running off it ok.

And just when the Pro Evo league is starting!

sounds stupid but have you rebooted your router?

I've turned everything off off and all works the same when I turn it back on again, but 36o still says the network adaptor is disconnected. Am thinking of just getting the wireless adaptor, but would prefer if i could fix it.

Get a cross over cable and connect one end to the 360 and the other to your pc

    Assign static address's to each 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0

    do a test media
(You will not be able to connect to live doing this)

You just want to test the nic in the xbox so you can fire it back to ms.

    Weird one.

If you could, try a process of elimination.

Try to grab a router, xbox360, ethernet cable from friends and swop in and out the components i.e try your friends ethernet cable on your set-up in case the cable has been damaged, try a friends xbox360, in case it's the 360, and finally a different router in case it's the Belkin.

Having a disconnected problem is very strange, if the router is switched on and has already been reset, and of course the 360 is connected to it.

Hopefully you'll figure out what component is causing the hassle.

EDIT: Having just seen ntlbell's post he's probably right that's it's the Xbox's NIC that's causing the hassle. Particularly if PCs/laptops can connect to the router ok.

    Thanks for the help!

I am a bit wary of messing round with the router as the last time i did, I had to call India for a hour or so trying to fix it. I dont really know much at all bout them.

If there is some problem with the Xbox NIC, would it make any difference if I got the Wireless adaptor?

You don't need to go near the router, we just need to verify if the nic works or not.

If you can try the above with the pc, or even system link with a friend.

we're not concerned about the router untill we work out if the ethernet card is ok or not.

If the nic is faulty it shouldn't have any baring on the wireless adaptor should work fine.
