If you are looking for something that will give your significant other hours and hours of fun on end, you really need to get the Nintendo Wii. It has indeed revolutionized the way people think of games and I think your loved one will really appreciate that you were the one who introduced her to this marvelous console.

Do you know the op, how do you now easyontheeye is buying it for a woman?

The nintendo wii would be a good buy, if you were getting a console. It will cost about €250, when its released on the 8 December. But is it expected to sell out in ireland? It could be difficult to get one.

If you want to get a handheld gaming device consider the nintendo ds. Its graphics are not as good as the psp's but i think the games are alot more fun.(its good for big kids :) ) its alot cheaper so you could get a ds + a few games for the same price as a psp.

    PSP Pros & Cons

    Pros:
    Great looking screen
    A few cool games
    Very good for watching videos
If you are lucky you can run a lot of homebrew on it
Can browse the internet on it
    Wipeout Pure

    Cons:
Weak battery life for a handheld
Only a few cool games, most are average or below average ps2 ports
    Bulky
Internet browser is hellish to use.
    Annoying naming format for videos.
Constant firmware upgrades ruin homebrew potential
    Games are quite expensive
    It's not a DS (only joking ;) )

I'm sure this list can be added to (possibly both but probably more cons) but as someone who has both, my psp has been used for about 6 hours in total (and that was watching lost and emulating legend of zelda a link to the past) not playing psp games while my DS gets pretty regular use and has even allowed me to catch up on GBA titles i missed.

In terms of graphics the Wii is nowhere near the 360 or PS3, but if you're looking for some gameplay thats different from the norm its the one to go for.

    DS for handheld gaming.
Wii for console that is relativly cheap, not pushing the graphics barriers but adding new gameplay elements and good accessible group fun.
360 for console with spiffy graphics and some promising games. Not very cheap, but some great deals atm.

Basically, avoid the PSP forever and the PS3 for now (not that you could get it for x-mas anyway).

having played it myself a few times now, i have to disagree. it's fun. it's like buzz on ps2. great laugh, but not a "gaming" experience. you'll take it out at parties and have a laugh, but wont spend hours trying to get past chapter5 in a game.

The PSP has a really strong games line up at the moment actually.

Loco Roco is possibly the best handheld game ever, Sonic Rivals is the best Sonic game I've played in a long time, Killzone Liberation is a very solid tactical shooter, Vice City Stories is a full GTA game if you're into it(and the best multiplayer game ever if you have friends with it), Mercury 2 is an excellent puzzler, and I love F1 06 on the PSP though that's obviously a bit of a specialist genre.

That's not to mention games like Syphon Filter and Power Stone Collection which I've read good things about but haven't gotten round to myself. Plus there's the likes of PES 6, Football Manager and others which are great substitutes for their home console/PC versions if that's what you want.

And biggest of them all, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops has been getting rave reviews, it's a full on MGS game and leaves up to the series standard from what I've read, I can't wait to get it next week.

Note that a lot of the games I mention aren't out in Europe, but the PSP is region free and it's cheaper to buy US games online anyway.

Yea the psp has a good amount of strong games such as steviec stated.

Metal grea ops got a 9.0 on www.ign.com with gamesplay and visuals on parwth mgs snake eater.

And of course theres FF7 Crisis core, which will be great. Alot of good games out now and in future, I think its a good time to buy a psp.

In relation to the wii, even though its sold may units, could it just be a short lived novelty with familiar games suc as mario only appearing frequently.
The PS3 is expensive but it contains everything inside, no ad ons. 360 is great, I just dont like the fact that they didnt include the HDDVD or wireless adaptor inside.

Tbh I would'nt. I got my psp a couple of days after it came out. In my opinion the only decent games for it are the GTA titles. The psp is getting a bit old now and there are more up to date consoles out there. This is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt;) .
