AirPort Express

Hopefully I'll explain this properly...I have an eMac with dial up internet connected via a LAN to a printer. In another building I was going to physically connect an Aiport Express to the LAN (there is a netowork point).

This would allow me to connect to the LAN/eMac with a laptop from any location in building 2.

Once on the network, from the laptop would I be able to connect the eMac to the internet and have internet access on the laptop ?

I'm doing this to avoid extra pointsm, phone lines, bills etc.

    thanks,
    GM

So basically you want to share your eMac's dial up connection, right? I assume you can easily do this in System Preferences, Sharing. Now the Aiport Express will add some extra complication but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

    Thanks,

Had a look at System Preferences and I think I know what has to be done. Not sure what performance will be like as its a Eircom Dial Up connection....very slooow....

Do you know will the Aiport Express be visible when I connect to the hub or will I have to assign an IP address ?

    Thanks, GM

Not sure what you mean but when you first connect it it should be visible, both via wireless and LAN. I'm not sure if you can set it up via LAN though. It'll probably set its own ip but you can set it manually if you like. This is where things can get a bit messy though. Airport stations can be a bit contrary at times and setting them up can be a pain.

Have you considered getting broadband? TBH I don't think its worth it for the sake of a dialup connection. And I assume you're using your emac's internal modem, right? So:

laptop > airport > via lan > emac > crappy dialup

Just seems like a lot of hassle and potential for problems. And if those two buildings aren't close togther you're going to need to be fit too, lol
