    Right.

I decided to upgrade to ie7 on the family computer make it safe(r) and all that. So i went to microsoft downloaded and did all that jazz.

It tells me to restart. I do.

It no longer boots. It gets to the XP loading screen and then BSODs. Saying UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT or something to that extent.

I have tried safe mode and all that. Nothing works.

    Any help?

take out the hardrive plug it into another pc and back up everything

put it back into your pc

boot pc off a win98 boot disk

at the command type in fdisk \mbr
    screen will look like this

    A:\fdisk /mbr

    A:\>

    then reboot

if thats still not working, try pluggin the pc into the cd-roms cable (if ide)

ps i had this before and it was fine the next day, so fingers crossed

Do NOT do this. This will make it a W98 MBR - not what you want if you're running XP. If you want to reset the MBR use a WinXP boot disk from here

thats why i told him to make a backup first :D

if your ghosting a drive onto another drive and this other drive was a slave on the same pc you need to blank the mbr so xp wont think its still the d drive,
but i also found that it fixed UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT errors a good few times

so don't worry the win98 floppy will work fine on xp i did it loads of times, but yeah an xp boot disk should do the same thing

`boot into safe mode, system restore to beforeIE7 installation.
re install xp sp2 then try ie7 install again

Glad to hear it's all back up and running. Now the next step is to turn off System Files protection for a minute to rename iexplore.exe to dontrunmeever.exe. Then install Firefox :D
