Britain is in the grip of an internet gambling fever. Panorama reveals how the gambling industry and the government are both chasing the money to be made out of the new world of online gaming. (from BBC).

Britain's courts are seeing an increasing number of people who have begged, borrowed or stolen so they can gamble online. (from NTL).

Watched this and thought it just lumped poker players in with every form of gambling out there.

Their main focus was on a woman who stole half a mil stg. and flittered it away on virtual racing while the rest of the programme compared poker to blackjack and roulette.

One other experiment they had was to get a (good) poker player to build up a bank roll for them. All was going well until the end of the programme. They decided to risk the whole lot as they moved up the stakes and the presenter told the chap to push the chips in even though he knew he was losing (because it was his last hand).

What a great argument against online gambling.

There will always be people that become addicted to gambling, just like there will always be people addicted to stamp collecting.
Its doesn't mean that all stamp collectors suffer from a disease, just a chosen few whose tongues tend to wither and die.

I usually like Panorama but they do go into things with lots of presumptions and on this occasion they confused their arguments with wanting to show someone losing money.

I've watched 2 Panoramas in the last 5 years, because they were focused on things I have a basic knowledge about.... their 'racing is fixed' episode, and their 'football managers are on the take' episode.
Both programs were farcially bad, and having taped tonights Panorama, I expect more of the same when I watch it.
