Gamecube conspiracy

I've been all around carlow town, into about six-seven stores and none of them had a gamecube or any gamecube games on the shelves. after I got home now, i did ring the first store I'd been to to ask them what the story was and they told me they had some behind the counter... I would have asked while I was in, but the ****er working there was just plodding along slowly serving some chick, and there were two people ahead of me already in the queue.

I mistakenly decided they didn't have any and just left.. but still, what the hell is going on here. Surely the gamecube is a popular enough console that it should have a few games on the shelf, or even a controller or poster or something.

is it because the wii is out soon? or does carlow just suck balls?

Nothing out of the ordinary really, most of the major Dublin shops have a fairly miniscule GC section, and my local shop in Dublin doesn't have any section at all.

Its the same in a lot of stores. From what ive seen, no HMV have any Gamecube games for sale, Gamestop have a few lying around and you'd have to go to Dawson Street to buy a Gamecube game from GAME.

    gofd damnit..

will the wii play gamecube games? ... might buy the GC tonight.. play it solid for a few months and then buy a wii march/april next year

Yes, the Wii plays all Gamecube games. The Gamecube is pretty much dead now, Zelda will be the last Nintendo game released for it.

Gamestop on Henry Street still have Viewtiful Joe 2 and True Crime (both great games) and that second hand sore on Talbot Street (?) should have some games lying around.

Ask behind the counter. Randomly good stuff gets traded in so just check as it can take a while for stuff to get on to the shelves.

the internet is the best source of gamecube games

we still have a gamecube section in Gamestop Santry, and a fairly large preowned section :)

yep, cheaper than buying them in a shop here too. Play.com is still pretty good for GC

Gamestop Santry, best range anywhere of GC games, new and 2nd hand, got a load of stuff sent from other stores that were devoting shelf space to the more profitable machines.
Don't feel so bad about GC stock vanishing from shops, the most valuable thing in a store is shelf space and if a machine isn't paying its way then the space must be given over to more profitable system, but on a brighter note it happens to all consoles eventually, look how Xbox stock is dwindling on shop shelves, and so it will come to pass for the mighty PS2 as well, I mean we can all remember when the shelves were dominated by Megadrive and Snes stock and a handful of the new fangled Playstation games.

Its the circle of life my friends.

They usually have a lot more behind the counter and yes they are stupidly overpriced.

Game are terrible for the preowned stuff. I always have a root when I'm in. I was looking for mario kart a while back and in 2 or 3 game shops, all the preowned mk's are €49.97. What are they smoking?

nope, I see 2 gamecube consoles going at good prices in there, mine is sold I have a few games for sale which could be of interest, 9 games for €50 on the cube and some of them are classics!! I would prefer to see people getting value for money in adverts than getting ripped in the game shops!!

we still have a gamecube section in Gamestop Santry, and a fairly large preowned section :)

Was in there recently, picked up Metroid Prime for GC and Oddworld Stranger's Wrath for Xbox. Lovely selection of GC games, but unfortunatly hadn't much cash to spare that day.

HMV actually started pushing Gamecube for a while in the summer, and gave it more shelf space than it had before, but this didn't last too long.

Probably because the shelf space was filled up with FIFA Street and the like.

The guy in HMV Henry Street told me he could order games in for me if i wanted. They also had cube controllers, which might be useful info for anyone planning to use Wii to play cube games.

Lately Dawson St is the only place in Dublin city with a sort of decent selection of cube games, but lot of the shelf space is full of old fifa's and the like. They do have random good stuff, as someone else said. I got hitman silent assassin there a couple of weeks ago for ten or fifteen quid.

I'm gonna have a little check later to see if there's anything at the moment.

My brother has a Gamecube but it's getting a bit dusty now (he used to be a huge Nintendo guy but he's been converted to the dark side...ahem ye PS2) Anyway, he has some good games but just wondering now why he didn't get a Zelda game. Is there no Zelda game for the GC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

^^ wind waker came out in 2003
if toyr used to say zelda oot you'll find it a bit different (most notably the graphics are cell shaded) but a great game all the same

will Gc games I buy from gamestop.com work on my gc? the prices are in dollars so I assume they're all in the Us.
