    Hi,

Im thinking of signing up to one of these 4 week dealies that the Gallery of Photography run. Specifically this one: http://www.irish-photography.com/courses/creative.html

Has anyone any opinion on this? Or even better, has anyone actually been on one of the courses? I'm a little hesitant because it seems slightly expensive (compared to other courses out there) for 4 weeks worth, but maybe you have been and maybe it's really good/****?

    Thanks for the feedback.

I done that course about 2 years ago and to honest it was'nt worth the money, the tutor just sat down with aload of books and passed them around with a few slides, there was no real structure to the course, also there was nothing I have'nt read out of a good photography book. I done the studio workshop there also had a very good tutor David Monaghan, there was alot of hands stuff, each person got there turn to bring in a model and setup a photo shoot with there own ideas and all the class got involved. Would recommend this course for any studio enthusiast.

Its good to go to if you have never held a camera in your life and dont really know any of the basics. Its not so much a hands on as a look at pictures and see what you think. Personally, for the money its not really worth it as you could just read the stuff from a book yourself. Its definitely for someone who doesnt understand any photographic concepts and wants someone to lay them out for them as a good base before starting anything practical.

I was nearly thinking of running a course like this myself, you could do it with zero qualifications and you would not even need to be a good photographer. All you need to do is rent a room in a gallery for a couple of hours a few nights a week..

Have you more details on that workshop Digitalage? I expected the creative course to be hands on with lighting, taking pictures, scene set up etc whereas all it was, was looking at bad photo copies of a book to illustrate some theory. You couldnt even see the photocopies and the point was lost..

Speak to Dave at Digital Beginners. He is doing a variety of courses to suit every level whether it be weekday or weekend.

I would defo suggest him as he really knows his stuff and the classes are nice and small so you get a great tutor to student ratio.

I did this course with Jeannie this time last year ... it was a waste of time unless you know absolutely nothing ...part of the problem is they accept anyone onto the course so you end up in a room full of people with mixed knowledge levels ... mostly knowing very little ... the first two sessions were taken with showing people how to use their point and shoot cameras ... why can't they just RTFM ?

There is little or no structure ... I gave up after three sessions ...

I hear some of the other courses are good but I'd avoi nd anything saying beginners, way too basic ... the staff there are very nice ... just back from there now ... spent the day in their darkrooms ...

maybe it might represent a career move for some peeps here - teaching photography!

if they can do it perhaps some people who actually know about it could too.just a thought!!
