Gift Idea for a World Traveller

Was looking for recommendations as to what would be the best gift to get for a person who is travelling around the world. Budget is E150 or there abouts. (The easy digital camera or MP3 player option is already gone!) Was thinking about a good backpack or something. Would a GPS receiver be worthwhile getting?

Any help or ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Cormac

For me the perfect gift would be a DS with Mario bros and Big brain academy.

A GPS would be fantastic imo, but the only problem is that the person may not want to carry around something expensive that could be stolen. If he/she is going travelling via hotels then it would be pretty cool, but if they are doing it on the cheap in hostels then I wouldn't recommend it. Unless you can get one of those watches that have GPS maybe?

Maybe you could buy a good memory card for the camera (1GB) The camera probably came with one, but chances are its pretty small - 128MB or something.. Even if they already have a 1GB one, a second one would be handy as they will fill the card fairly quick if they're bounding around the globe. Or maybe find out where they are flying into, and if it is soemwhere like Thailand, you could pay for their first few nights accom in some plush hotel...

A memory card or other storage media is a great idea, or something that can be used with a USB port (almost anything these days). :)

How about a watch that changes time to each different time zone as he arrives there. Has an alarm, waterproof etc.
Casio make a wave ceptor range that is pretty cool.

If they dont have a backpack that is a great idea, something that they definately need and can knock it off their pre travel budget, which is important

Are they already travelling? If so then they already have everything they need so it's tough - you really don't want to be carrying around something heavy or expensive if it's not reallt necessary. You could get a Flickr Pro account for them - that way they can upload fotos for all to see but it's not that expensive.

If they've not left yet then a voucher for a travel store would be besy - a backpack is a pretty personal choice.
