I have the C4 and I'm having awful trouble keeping the windscreen clean. On the outside there always seems to be grime and it's very noticable at night it's terrible. I've been using windowlean but it's ****e.

Is there a specific product for cleaning car windows that would maybe put a protective layer on aswell. I live down the country aswell so don't have access to specialised autoshops so if there's an old wifes way of doing it, that would be handy.

Clean it properly first, including the rubbers, and use a good screenwash.

and you really need to use a good polish to keep the dirt away....I use Autoglym Car Glass Polish and it does the job well

Just on a side note, what is the best way to keep the inside of your Windscreen clear?
I've got a Heated windscreen and I am not sure what is best to use.
when the heater is on it keeps clear but when it is off there seems to be a bit of dirt on it.

And I dont want to keep the heater on the whole time:p

    Cheers

Again Mik I would say polish the windows inside and out.

I note in your post you're livin' in the boonies, but next time you're near an autoparts store, try and get "Rain-X". should cost 6-7 euro. You apply it after cleaning the windscreen, it gives a protective film to the glass. Such is the effect that rain etc 'beads' and runs off the screen, cuts wiper usage dramatically. Invest in a few bottles. Each application will last roughly 4-5 weeks, maybe more, before you notice a return to 'normal'

Echo that one, plus Rain-X also do (did?) a windscreen cleaner that removes every last trace of grease and gunk. Highly recommended before applying the Rain-X stuff.

My big problem is always the inside of the windscreen. I've got a very deeply sloping screen (mini-MPV) and getting to all of it, especially the bottom is a real PITA. It usually ends up looking all streaky and worse than when I started cleaning it.

Lovely Jubelys. One of those should do the trick. Cheers.

Would that rain-x be fairly common? I've found out there's an auto/mod shop near here but it's not that big from the looks of things.

Windowlean is ok for the inside of the screen if your stuck.

Scum Lord - Rain X should be available in most autoshops, if you're not heading to civilisation for awhile, then the juice of a lemon in some warmish water should do the trick on the inside. (tip - microwave the lemon for about 15secs beforehand, you'll get more juice from it)

or else a 50/50 mix of distilled water and white vinegar applied with newspaper or kitchen towel.

There are better options out there than Rain-X for protecting glass, but they cost about twenty quid for a small bottle. Unless you fancy doing the home or office windows as well ?
