I'm doing a shoot there tonight so I'll let you know. I would imagine it's pretty poor. I did a shoot in Crawdaddy on Tuesday and the lighting was brutal. Just a few static spots shining down mainly on the singer - doesn't really make for exciting looking shots. I can't imagine it will be much better in Dorans...

Shot a gig there a few years back "Faith and the Muse" and there was little or no light they have a few green and red spots about 4 over the stage and two moving multicolor ones on the dance floor.

The ceiling is quite low about 10ft and painted red above the stage.
They may have changed this but I guess not.

    I would go for ISO1600 @ F2.8 or below.

    Seb.

The lights do change, mainly white/red/blue sequences. You'll need your 50 1.8, it'll do ye perfectly. I wouldn't bother with a flash tbh. You'll illuminate the horrible mess of a stage.

And if the band want any shots done, the back stage room is interesting, if not VERY cliche'd

dorans is the worst place to shoot in but you hardly require a photo pass for there. i've been there so many times, even with signed bands but never been asked for a pass

Used to be the Rock Garden I think, a bit of a tip I recall, and if I do recall correctly it was pretty dungeonesque. Dark as hell.

    Understatement!

Here's a tip: If you DO end up backstage (all five feet or so of it), roll up your trousers and hold your nose. It aint pretty.

The lighting's pretty **** usually, but your band might bring their own stuff? I've seen a few bands do that, although not in Dorans. There are a lot of iron bars around the front and side of the stage to obscure so I'd do a quick scope first too.

They usually take the front ones down when bands are on and put them back up when the DJ comes on - if only to facilitate the slappers who will inevitably want to scale them as the night goes on :D

Aye, they're usually (Hopefully) taken down for gig's I've seen in there!

    So...These scaling slappers eh?
