    Hi,
Anyone recommend an easy to use photo editing program, something that does noise reduction, red eye, resizing, add text etc. I'm currently using GIMP but there is just too much to take in and I haven't got the time to work it all out, so that knocks out PS as well.

    Preferably Freeware/Open Source.

    Cheers,
    Jaqian

sounds like you want alot without having to do much, i'd say stick with Gimp if thats what your using (havent used it myself, i'd definitely recommend CS2), dont worry about anything else outside the scope of what you want to use it for. Same with CS2 there are hundreds of functions that i have never touched on because of time but if you switch to something else you will still need to learn how to do the things that you want to do.

Basically if all you want to do is get noise reduction, red eye, resizing, add text - then just learn about these in whatever package you use. It is pretty straight forward to do these in PS so i would imagine Gimp is the same (cant you get a PS skin for Gimp?). Don't get bogged down with everything else thats available until you have time to dig a bit deeper...Thats all the advice i can give, no matter what package you use you will need to learn the functions you need its just the CS2 makes these functions easy to use and gives some of the best results..

I think a lot of people are intimidated by Photoshop as it looks quite complicated. It's not really... I've been able to teach my 65 year old father who barely knows how to program a VCR to use photoshop and enhance his old slides that he's currently scanning. If you're using GIMP get your hands on the photoshop skin that people here have been talking about already. I wrote a couple of photoshop tutorials for common stuff you can do in photoshop in this thread.

You could try the adobe lightbox beta trial ... free software for now anyways ...

a bit buggy ... though nice to use when not slowing your pc down to a crawl ...

if gimp does what you want but you don't like the interface try gimpshop
    http://www.gimpshop.net

for a paint shop pro clone try http://www.getpaint.net
may not run on older pc's as it needs dotnet too

both free as in speach or beer

Microsoft have an offering too in the photo imaging arena too - i've never tried t tho
lots of hardware suppliers bundle the likes of Elements and Corel photo software with their products these days which you might like to try out!
