I'm a German student studying (in Germany) to become a German/English teacher. I spent a year in Dublin before college, and ever since then I'm thinking about returning there, so I'm curious to find out what is required to become a secondary school teacher in Ireland (in gerneral -and even if somebody knows- what requirements there are for foreigners who want to teach in Ireland). I would really appreciate it if somebody would take the time to explain to me the way of becoming a teacher in Ireland and answer the questions I have on that topic! Thank you in advance!

If you are a fully registered teacher in the EU you can apply for registration in Ireland. They may however request that you do some further study into the Irish education system (and I think there's an exam on that).
As far as I know you'll be given a probationary period in which to do this.

Best place to look is www.teachingcouncil.ie

But be warned - there aren't many jobs!

    hi,
thanks kittex, i'll have a look at that.
was just wondering cos the other way round (=becoming a teacher in germany when u are from abroad) can be quite tricky, guess the germans invented bureaucracy :).
so do u actually need a master in ireland or just a b.a. and a hdip?
and what criteria are there for an irish person to get into college?does it depend on ur leaving cert grades?
