    Hi all,

My girlfriend has an ibook (i think its G3)

we have wireless at home which i use on my notebook, but because she didnt get built in wireless when she bought it a couple of years ago, she cant take advantage of it.

Is there a USB device that can make her ibook work with wireless broadband?

basically i think its one of these im looking for, but for mac http://www.expansys.ie/p.aspx?i=121332

    Thanks

    Matt

Depending on her ibook, she can just get an airport card and install it herself. Its fairly easy. I think they are 50 euro from Apple

Apple no longer supply the 'standard' airport cards that the G3 iBook took, if it is 'Airport Ready' you could get one second hand on ebay or the like, the last time i looked they were going for about €120.

If you are going down the USB Wireless route .. do some searching on the web .. I think there is a DLink that will work but you need to download 3rd party drivers.

ah ok ... cheers both .... €120 seems a bit on the expensive side. I'll google the dlink when i get a minute

the USB d-links work grand and are faster if you dont mind it sticking out the side.

Far as i know reason the older cards suddenly went sky high in price is they are one of the only apple cards that can be used to crack WEP with kismac :)

i use the belkin usb adapter with a ralink driver, works grand.google ralink to get the driver.
another solution is to get yourself a orinoco silver/Gold pcmia card of ebay for ?30. They use the chipset as airport cards so it will act as a airport card.
you will have to strip it down to fit the slot, theres a guide on the net somewhere on how to do it
