Ah now, what a very GENERAL question.

IF you are a first year, and you apply to live on campus you'll be almost sure to be living with hundreds of other first years. From waht I can gather this is a fantastic expericence which shouldnt be missed.

However, after first year you might consider moving out of res [residental accomodation, ie in on campus] and into a house nearby or apartments nearby. This will probably be strongly recommeneded by most users of this board as it allows you a lot more freedom!

When you are living out of first year res, you generally get the choice who it is you live with. A group of mate from your course, from a society you join, from home even! This rocks, living with your mates is so much fun, and worthwhile.

Sometimes you ad a mate move in with others, and one of them is crap. Or sometimes someone in your house has to leave and be replaced with somoene crap. Its hard to tell!

Most of the time, the best thing is just living out of home, doing your own thing and having the time of your life.

Matt, you're moving in this weekend, but if you suck, you'll be gone my Monday. We take a vote on you... seriously. And then, if you lose, we make you walk around DCU naked. No word of a lie.

In first year now and living in Larkfield and I was sh*tting myself about who I'd end up with but we've ended up to be really great friends!
Some people get along with their roommates, some keep their doors locked at all times!! It's just the luck of the draw really...

Also, anyone know the chances of getting a room? Is there a big demand?

All depends if i'm accepted into the course of course. :)

Yep, read the accommodation thread for more info but basically if you apply for the first year campus accommodation you'll get a room in a two bedroom apartment with a shared kitchen and bathroom.

As for the likelihood of getting it, well as long as you don't apply too late you'll be grand. There are also incentives like preference to those who have DCU as their top choice on their CAO and such. :)
