Hi, I'd like to know if I was screwed by a independant mechanic
on some work on my 98 citreon saxo.

full service the usual oil handbrake tightened up etc
new back brakes parts were 35euro
    The heater/blower was knackered so
heating fan blower 160euro and resister to control settings 60euro
2 days labour at 30euro an hour!

The work was excellent my issue was the labour apparently
it took him 7 hours plus to get the dashboard off a big job with saxos so he said to put the new air fan in.

He was looking for 770 I beat him down to 720 with much grunting
I felt i was overcharged by 200 or so I could be wrong.
I feel I was done any opinions from more knowlegeble members here?

    (Very) Rough Prices:

    Dashboard labour €210
    Service Labour € 45
    Brakes Labour € 20
    Oil € 25
    Brake Pads € 35
    Air Filter € 20
    Oil FIlter € 7
    Pollen Filter € 25

That much makes €387. add the heating parts at €220 and you get €607.

Add VAT to that and you get €734

Academic only, but VAT would bring it to 688.95.

Long and short of it is that any dash-out job is going to be a lotta work, and I don't think he's quoting an unreasonable amount of time for the labour.

Yeah, I was sticking 21% on everything. VAT probably is the money the OP hasn't accounted for though.

I don't think you were done, 30 euro p.h is not a lot for labour these days and 7 hours isn't that extravagent to remove the dash and fit the fan motor. If you went to a Citroen main dealer they would possibly do the job a little quicker but their labour rates per hour would be around double or possibly treble what your man charged!

You probably should have tried to get a 2nd hand fan motor on ebay or from a breakers though
