Polariser & ND Filters - where from?

Went into the camera shop today to get a polariser and was told they dont stock anything that large (want it for a 77mm lens). Also asked for some help on ND filters and they said they dont stock them anymore especially as so many people are switching to digital. I was told to order them via the internat - great customer service or what!!!

So, can anyone recommend places to go and visit for the above??

rofl. what kind of argument is that? Digital cameras need nd filters as much as 35mm. Internet wise I cant really help, other than if you found a good source on ebay (of which there are probably loads). I've gotten practically all of my filters so far from a local shop. they seem to be the only place that bother keeping decent stock of filters in Cork.

Shop obviously didn't know what they were talking about.

7dayshop and/or jessops are the folks I use.
    P type Cokin stuff.

I remember my own trip to that shop in search of ND filters, it's like a pilgrimage everyone in Galway makes at some point.

"Hi, I'm looking for graduated ND filters."
    "Sorry, we've stopped selling those."
I point at the shelf behind the assistant.
"I see filter mounts right there, have you the actual filters in stock?"
    "Oh, that's what those are?"

    Ahh, happy memories.

Is ND referring to the filters or the shop assistants?

I odered cokin filters and P-sries holder from http://www.warehouseexpress.com: Good experience, fast delivery and very user friendly (email & phone)

    I odered:
    P-Series holder
    Adapter ring (72mm) + 2 ND filters

    warehouseexpress £50 (includes £10 delivery ... )
Jessops wanted to charge me €210!!!! for the same stuff ... Nuts!

P Series is great as all you need to is buy adapters for the lens you use, 52mm,55mm, upto 87mm I think ...
Adapters are about £8 sterling each ...

sorry for the repost,I just saw the link above ... I'll leave it here anyway ...

I don' want to hijack the thread, but I was wondering about the Cokin filter system.

At a basic level, it exists of a holder, a filter and an adaptor ? So I can get a holder and filters and use with any lens provided I have the right lens. Is this correct ?
Aprat from the obvious advantage of being able to use the filters on any lens, is there anything else to differentiate these from screw in filters ?
How about Kood filters, which are cokin compatible, are these any use ?

Have a look at : Cokin

But essentially yes, all you needs is
1 holder (takes 3 filters at a time), Any number of filters you want
    adaptor ring per lens (£8)

As for the rest, thats an individual call, scew-ins verses Holder system like this ? Advantage of holder system is possibly the price :) each filter only costs £14, scew-ins a lot more, the bigger the lens the more expensive the screw-in fliter ... as for quality, I wouldn't know .. try the link above it may help ...

Something else that would bother me about the Cokin jobbies is that you can't use a lens hood. I can imagine a lot of situations where light getting on the filter would be a problem.

You can get a cokin one - http://www.amazon.com/Cokin-P255-Modular-Hood-Filter/dp/B00009R7BU

Not sure how effective it is.

I have never heard of anyone using these various filters whether it be Cokin or not and wanting to have a lens hood on at the same time. Is it just me??

    http://www.teamworkphoto.com/hitech.html

Hitech filters are supposed to(according to a lot of the american forums) be equal in qulaity to Lee filters at a much lower price. All the info is there on that site and they tell me they ship to ireland although i didn't get a cost. They have their own adaptor rings and holders but the filters also fit into the cokin P holders and supposedly are of a far superior quality.I have heard the nit pickers saying that coking filters cast a magenta colour cast over the images.I don't know too much about it bit i am thinking of going the Hitech way myself.I bought a 77mm circ pol today in town from the lovely people at Gunns of wexford St. for €88. I could have gotten exactly the same filter from hong kong in about 8 days for €38 incl delivery from an e bay power seller shop called Roxsen. But I had a great chat with the staff in Gunns along with my purchase, although it wasn't worth €40 ,Lol.

These guys are good too -

    www.2filter.com

Great selection but shipping can be slowish ... and you do risk paying duty.

I have bought quite a few itmes from them...

For an expensive solution there's this, I think Lee filters fit the Cokin P system.

I'm tempted by getting a set of Lee filters, I've heard bad things about the Cokin filters being very easy to scratch, but they're expensive!

Is anybody using any of these systems with ultra wides (10-20/22 etc)? Is there any issue with vignetting? Lee have a wide angle filter holder which extends less in from of the lens, but I'm wondering is an issue in the first place?
