I'm about to start for the first time

Can anyone recommend a good, newbie tollerant server? Any other tips?

Your probably better off rolling on a new server, like Xavius or Jaedenar. Some of the older servers can be a bit of a bore to level, as its full of epic geared lvl60's who sit in IF all day. Other then that, its really just a matter of choice. Pick a class that you like and then say bye-bye to your social life.

If you want a PvP server, the newest ones are Jaedenar, Vek'nilash, Xavius and Boulderfist. PvE? Alonsus, Darkspear, Lightbringer - and before that, my server Kilrogg. Like Kiith said, just pick a class you like and have fun Don't be afraid to try a few different characters/factions/server types until you find something you like! I was very lucky, I loved the very first character I played - but sometimes it takes time to find something you really like.

Make sure you don't have a job, an education or human relationships to worry about either.

I went for Xavius - Tauren Hunter. I can see how people get hooked on this.....

It's easily the most addictive game that I've ever played, shame that it's not all that much fun unless you find a decent group to play with...

I think 1-60 it's easily the best game I've ever played. Staggeringly good. I'd put Football Manager and Civ2 ahead for the addiction though!

Just went on my first group quest. There were only three of us, but it makes a huge difference - up to level six now.

Cool, I just started and I'm on Xavius too (although my boyfriend was already on there so not a hard choice for me). I'm Alliance though - and strictly forbidden from associating with Hordes...

I can agree with addictiveness, I went to lvl 14 in two days (very very nearly lvl 15 but work called ).

Actually, if you have any friends that aren't hooked, you could just sign them up for a little trial account... then you can uphold human relationships and play at the same time.

But when you can make full instance groups from your RL friends it's so much more fun than grouping with randomers...

Hehe, I guess you have a point there... still, that's kind of how I got sucked in. I had sworn to myself I wouldn't look at WoW stuff cause I KNEW I'd get hooked if I started playing, and then people rudely exploited my weakness... ah well, not like I'm regretting it!
