    Howdy,

Bit of a newbie here but I've been watching from the sidelines for a while. I'd love to get into gig photography - any ideas on how to go about getting a press pass to gigs? Here's some of my recent work form this years Hard Working Class Heros festival...

    Feedback appreciated...

    Cheers :)

excellent stuff, really great shots there, first a first try, outstanding.

press passes...well emailing the band/tour manager sometimes gets ya one, say your wanting to take them on behave of some paper or what not, real or otherwise ;) . Another way is to work at the venues in anyway, ie security/bar/ticket and the like, from there you'll meet and apres gig drink with the peeps that hand them out, after that your laughin.

press passes are easy to get, shoot loads, spend years building up contacts, persistance, determination, luck, determination, hard work :-)

just shoot loads of small bands and the big bands will eventually come to you

also, read this if you haven't already: www.AAAphotos.org/faq.htm

Cheers for the feedback guys. I'm a newbie here but I've been into photography now for over a year. That was my first proper gig shoot (i.e. a gig with proper lighting) and I found it's very much down to luck as lighting and subject changes so fast - I threw away over a GB of ones that didn't work :)

I thought they looked too polished to be from a completely newbie, but still excellent for your first gig shots. I imagine to to be pretty difficult and look forward to having a go myslef. There seems to be a good few posters here who are more than capable of getting great gig shots so it should be a good place for advice..

Defo good shots. Are you really just starting with gigs???

I have requested a bit of advice from a seasoned music photographer myself as I would love to get press passes for larger bands. I have to call him tomorrow to discuss it but seems like he is willing to help me out. I will let you know how I get on if you like.

I really don't like gig photos in general but I do like your shots and style. Very tasty!! I wish you all the best with your blagging into concerts :)

Original post is nearly two years old... He's either mastered the art of blagging or given up ;):p
