I am interested in getting some ND grad filters but dont know a lot or enough about them to know which is best or recommended for my 20D.

Has anyone got any details of what types there are or how they work etc etc??

I got a Cokin P holder and a ND2 Grad ages ago. Did the job nicely Recently got an ND8 and that's worked beautifully so far...

handy table of filter strengths there... they work by cutting the available light, allowing you to take longer exposure shots in brighter conditions. I most recently used my ND8 and ND2 stacked on the cokin holder to get a long exposure of a beach just before sunset... Very effective (just make sure your sensor is dust free!)

    Thanks for that.

Do you have the graduated or the split version. In your opinion, which do you think works better??

I have heard some guys mention in Galway Camera Club only use the split version and use the split where the horizion is.

my ND2 is graduated, the ND8 is solid. I dont have any split filters so I cant comment too far on the differences but I've never had an issue with the grad. I can see the merits of the split, cutting a more precise line than the grad but for me at least it's not an issue.
