Isn't this supposed to be country? They seem to play mostly soft/ classic rock.
Is there any way I can complain to the government about it?

They have got their license on alie!

    It always happens.

Remember Lite FM? Classic Hits 98FM? Rock 104? Radio Ireland? All of them retooled and were let away with it.

Country wasn't paying the bills, so the became "Country Mix"

Radio Ireland is the classic example. They basically got the license on false pretences.

Why do they not just lose the license? Take the license off them let someone else have a crack at it.

If you had the pockets you could submit a false bid, go bust and retool the station to a profit making one.

If you feel strongly about it make a complaint http://www.bci.ie/contact/index.html
Complaining here will achieve little (complaining to the BCI may achieve less more but your chances are better)

    Rock 104?

    ..which was Capital Radio before.

I don't mind that particular episode, as that sort of 18-34 market radio station has to retool/rebrand/new voices once in a while, to make sure it stays within the remit. Otherwise a commercial station loses its focus. Look at 2FM for example. Rock 104 was an attempt to re-jig the station with the remit, iirc. It didn't work, so it went back to formatted Top 40 and recent music.

So the Capital/Rock/FM104 changes aren't as seismic as what occurred to Lite FM/Q102 and Radio Ireland. Those episodes should not have been allowed.

The mother is obsessed with Dublin Country 106.8 She was never really listened to the radio before it was introduced to her.
How many listeners do they have? Are they doing well?

Country made a submission to the BCI last year to change the music mix on the station. They wanted easy listening. BCI refused but a compromise deal "country mix" was agreed.
