Have tried some tunes in Drop D, but the guitar can't takes it.
Been lookin at the ESP EX-50, just love the shape.

Checked out Thomann[ye guys recommend this website highly]

Have a read of some reviews for the LTD here. Seems pretty good, and you could upgrade it with some decent pickups at a later date.

Also, check Ishi's Ubox. Link is in the Resources Sticky. Should be able to get a nice fixed bridge dual humbucker guitar for your budget.

from my experience with the epi firebirds and explorers, they have horribly shaped necks - thin and wide with very little beef

for 350, the most versatile guitar you're going to get (and that's a wide range of tones there) is a mexican strat or tele with a splittable bucker in the bridge...

you may not like the looks, but they are great value and very useable.

P.S. that ESP is butt ugly ;)

    Thanks for replies dudes
Ya see, here in the west, we have a couple of shops sellin guitars in town, but they[shops] ain't that good.
If ye had 350 notes in your pocket, what would ye be lookin at, it'll help alot if ye could name some models.

Honestly, I'd say up longer and get something better, but that's just me. ;)

    I'm with KH on this.

€350 is just above beginer in the kind of no mans land. My first guitar was a Squire strat which was fine for getting started (not a big loss if had've quit) then for ages I was thinkin of upgrading. Held out for an Epiphone Les Paul (€600 at the time) and was delighted. I've since swapped the pickups and now it's right up there (in terms of sound anyway) with some very expensive machinery.

Yeah, I'd agree with the no man's land comment, something around the €500-600 would be a fair price for a very good instrument.

Hmmm...500 euros....ok, if I could get my hands on the extra cash what am I lookin at.
I am willing to spend that amount of money[once I get my hands on it] .
    Deaddonkey, I know ya think it's butt ugly but here's the next step up for the esp;
    http://www.thomann.de/gb/espltd_ex260bk.htm
Or what else is out there???

That's still not very good in my humble opinion. As far as I know, most of the lower grade LTD guitars are made in Indonesia, where the build quality is spotty at best, and the use of agathis would suggest this is true, because agathis a cheap indonesian wood, which sounds pretty crap.

I'd suggest you'd hold out a little longer, and get this one. I believe it's made in Korea, so the built quality will be far superior, it's got a mahogany body, and comes with an EMG 81/60 set, so you probably won't need to upgrade the pickups at a later date.

Considering the difference in price between the two, if you got the cheaper one and then replaced the stock pickups, it makes things quite close. Hope that helps.

Helps alright KH, think I'm learnin a bit more...
So if I go for an Epiphone Gothic Explorer instead of the original ESP, I would probably be better off, since the goth exp has a mohogany and alder body.
Would be better to change the pick ups on the goth than the esp further down the road???
Thing I don't like bout the Epiphone is there are no fret markers except for the 12th.

Epiphones generally require some work. The electronics and hardware are absolute junk, one guy here had a pickup literally fall apart on his Epiphone Les Paul.

They're good instruments, but a lot of people recommend replacing all the electronics, and replacing the tuners aswell.

There's a lovely fixed-bridge version. Ishi had one in the U-box a while ago that I very nearly got my mitts on, but that'd be just the job, and they're fantastic player's guitars, really magnificent for the price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

    Thanks for the replies dudes.
That RGT42 looks damn sweet alright.
Me thinks an Ibanez is on the cards, though the RGT42 might be just outta my range.
Thomann have the RG321MH for 311 and the RG370DX for 411.
Aaaagh!!! Dudes my brain is gettin sore.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

but the RGT is definitly worth the few extra €€€ over the 370, they even make a leftie 370 for 15€ more... yay.

but the Rg321 has the fixed bridge for diff tunings... seems cool

Ibanez makes fantastic guitars, no doubt about it.

    I spotted this over on adverts.ie: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=11037&cat=16

Already upgraded with a very good pickup, and it's easily within your price range. Fixed bridge, so it'll be good for alternate tunings.

Thats a fine lookin guitar on adverts KH, thanks for the link dude.
My problem is I can't get to Dublin over the next few weeks [work commitments].
That'll definitely be snatched up soon.
Anywho, I've definitely gone off the ESP and Epiphone.
As I said, I'm willing to spend 500 on a guitar, so my gut feelin is to get the rg321 from thomann for 310 Euros.
So when I get the extra cash I can always upgrade it if needs be.
People of this thread you've been of great help, I'll definitely be back.;)

    Christmas has come early people.
My brand new Ibanez was delivered last Friday :D .
This thing is fantastic, so light, plays so easy and dropping it down a step is so simple.
Must look for a new pedal in the new year!!!!
    Again thank y'all...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

So did you go for the RG321 in the end or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

It's true, but supposedly they're going to be bringing out a green K-7, which I'd really like to see.

    Yep, sure did.
Can't let the bloody thing down.
I've only been playin' a year and with the old guitar I found it hard at times to push myself a bit further. But this thing makes playin' more fun, the neck on this is fantastic[remember where I'm comin' from, a cheap Aria].
To think there is much better out there!!!
Anywho, might be back here soon to discuss some pedals.
