Metal to metal without weld ?

I have a lamp shade here that has broken, one of the pieces has broken off it. See pics. I was trying to bond the metal together using solder and a soldering iron bit it won't stick to the metal. As you can see from pic 1 I have it clamped and it's glued, which I doubt will hold it.

Any ideas what would make it hold as I've no access to a welder?

Is it wide enough to drill and rivet?

Yeah I'd say so I have a Dremel type hand drill I could use. The bar across is about 8mm. How would I revet it?, I don't have a machine for that.

    Thanks

Well get yourself a rivet gun. They're about €12 euro in a Pound Shop (Mmm, irony)

Will do, I'll check my local pound shop tomorrow.

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure I saw some in Lidl the other day as well left over from a previous "Special offer".

Would it not be cheaper just to buy a new lampshade?

You can get a putty for joining metals without fittings or welds.
It comes in too halves and is pressed together to avtivate it, you press it onto the metal and a chemical reaction makes it harden. I can't remeber the name of it, weld-gum/putty or something to that effect.
Can get it in craft shops or DIYs

    Self-tappers. Much cheaper solution.

JB WELD is the name of the stuff you are on about. it is like a metal glue and you can sand it down a bit afterwards and give it a lick of white paint.
it is available in most motor factors. Really strong stuff as well.
