Took this today on a stroll by the Royal Canal near Longwood. I took a few but wasn't really happy with any. C & C's welcome. See a bigger version (when is everyone going to gget bigger screens? :)) by clicking on the pic.

Hrn, too contrasty for me, truth be told. The top third of the photo hurts my eyes and the glow and strong contrast of the rest of the photo make it hard to focus on the rest.

Technically, it's way too dark in the middle - you can (at least on my monitor) barely make out the tree trunk. I think if you had a blue sky, and got down lower if would've made for an interesting photo (green, blue and red). I'm sure someone will come along and gripe about the tree being off-centre, but I usually place stuff like that to the side so you can take in more of the scene.

Yeah, the sky bugs me too. Not mad about it myself. Probably hoping it will grow on me. I think I'll try a crop without the sky. The middle isn't too dark here though. Since calibrating the monitor I'm not sure about anything anymore

    How about this:

it doesn't appeal to me for some reason - even tho i can see some nice stuff here ...i think the tree in the centre aint helping maybe re-compose!!

Its all fensters fault lol  but he makes a valid point!

What did you do, whack the saturation up to +50?

Oh that life was so simple ;)

Taken from RAW with some saturation boost. Worked on it a bit with gaussian blur and layers to give it a sort of glowey effect. The original is even more crap because it was taken into the sun and has a lot of haze. The histogram for the original is just one sharp spike in the middle :(

It is not one I'm mad about but there is something about it. A fairy fort kind of feel. If there were young foxes playing at the base of the tree it might have worked better. I think one of the reasons I peresvered with it is that I didn't want to admit that I hadn't taken anything worthwhile on my stroll.
