As we all know, we can buy cigarette online from another EU member state legally as effective 23/11/2006.;) I googled it and found most of cigarette online stores are Non-EU based. Does anyone know good site for EU based cigarette online store? Cheers!

    Very wishful thinking interyu!

The verdict in the case will be delivered on Thursday but it is far from a foregone conclusion.

If (big if!) the court decides this is possible, then you will have no problem in finding suppliers online, in newspaper ads etc.

In fact unless they have been caught napping on this one I would suspect that the likes of Tescos have already contingences in place so that you will soon be able to go to your local store and place an order and pay for your booze and fags which will then be delivered by post from their warehouse in Latvia, France, Germany etc.

Just don't hold your breath! (If your a smoker, then that wouldn't be very long anyway!!!)

One article I read on this mentioned that you still will have to pay the excise difference between the originating state and here.

Might want to read this one chums, from RTE.ie. :)
The European Court of Justice has rejected a legal bid to allow online European shoppers to purchase cheap cigarettes and alcohol anywhere throughout the EU.

The ruling is a blow to Europeans hoping to buy cheap alcohol abroad via the internet.

The Luxembourg-based court upheld the current interpretation of EU rules, which state that in order to benefit from cheaper taxes elsewhere, consumers have to travel to the EU country in question and pick up their purchases.

The ruling was keenly awaited in Britain and Ireland, where alcohol and cigarette taxes are particularly high compared with the continent.

The weekday or weekend 'booze cruise' is a common pursuit for many British consumers who return from warehouse shops in northern France with cars and vans laden with wine, beer, spirits and cigarettes.

The National Off Licence Association welcomed the decision, calling on the Government to reduce the high rates of tax Irish consumers pay on alcohol.

    Its a pity.
I was watching something on tv3 though as follows.
the one reporting was demonstrating carrying a load of wine and fags min the back of her car, she said as long as they are all for your own consumption then you can fill up a car.

I always thought there was a limit you could bring home from your holidays, why else would you have to declare at shannon airport?? Can anyone confirm if one can carry home as much as they like??

    From revenue.ie (my bold)

    Duty Paid allowance for Travellers
DUTY PAID AND TAX PAID GOODS.
No additional duty or tax will be charged on goods bought duty and tax paid (e.g. in shops, supermarkets etc.) in another EU country, provided the goods are for your personal use.

If your purchases are equivalent to or less than the quantities shown in the table they will, generally speaking, be regarded as for personal use. If you exceed these quantities you may have to prove that the goods are for your personal use.
    GOODS MAXIMUM QUANTITY

    Cigarettes 800

    Cigarillos 400

    Cigars 200

    Smoking Tobacco 1kg

Spirits (whiskey, gin, vodka, etc.) 10 litres

Intermediate Products (e.g. port, sherry, etc. but not including sparkling wine) 20 litres

Wine (of which only 60 litres can be sparkling) 90 litres

    Beer 110 litres

However, there are specific limits on the amount of tobacco products you can bring into Ireland for your personal use which have been bought in the following EU countries:

CZECH REPUBLIC - 200 cigarettes OR 250g smoking tobacco OR 50 cigars OR 100 cigarillos.

ESTONIA - 200 cigarettes OR 250g smoking tobacco

HUNGARY, LATVIA, LITHUANIA, POLAND, SLOVAKIA, SLOVENIA - 200 cigarettes.

If you have tobacco products over these specific limits you must declare them to a customs officer in the red channel and pay the appropriate duties and taxes.

TRAVELLERS UNDER 17 ARE NOT ENTITLED TO TOBACCO OR DRINKS ALLOWANCES.
Please Note. Goods imported for commercial purposes must be declared to Customs.

You should keep your receipts as proof that you have paid duty and taxes.

Right, correct me if im wrong. Im going to Poland shortly, according to what you have just posted I can bring home 200 fags. However, if the law had been been passed today then we could have bought them freely in huge amounts?

I dont think in huge amounts. Its just that you could have bought them online instead of having to bring them here in person.

Very, very heavy chain smoker? :) Light up (bring the plane up with you as well) as soon as you get on the steps outside the plane and put 10 in your mouth.

Stick two tar blackened fingers up in the general direction of the customs officer. One look at the heavily stained fingers should be enough proof that you alone will be enjoying the cheap, life draining cigs and he will send you on your way.

Unless the gesture is seen as offensive, in which case all cigs will be confiscated.

Interestingly their was a test case in the UK a couple of weeks ago on this very topic. The outcome was that the onus has now switched from the consumer to prove they are for personal use to customs to prove that they are not. Hopefully we'll follow suit.

Ryanair will charge you so much for the excess weight,
it wouldn't be worth your while ;)
