Tripod heads - which one

Planning on getting a tripod (Manfrotto 055PROB) but still unsure as to what head to get with it. I've narrowed it down to one of the following

488RC2 - ball and socket type looks very sturdy
    460MG - lightweight
    804RC2 - pan & tilt

Given that the 804RC2 has handles to allow you to pan & tilt the camera how is this managed with either of the other two? Do you just unlock and rotate the camera as need be by hand and lock the head again?
Sorry for such an obvious (to some) question.
If anybody has any other suggestion for a head I'd love to hear them.

    Cheers,
    sombaht

    I have a 488 RC0 on that tripod.
Its solid and easy to adjust and locks perfectly.
I went for the RC0 plate as I was worried that the others would interfere with changing the battery.
    Im happy with it!

I use the 488RC2, its sturdy enough but I do get some slippage when I have canon 1d mii and canon 24-70mm mounted in portrait mode on it...

I've got a 322RC on my neotec, never had a problem with it. Very easily adjusted & never noticed any slippage even with my heaviest lens. It can get in the way of the battery grip on my 30D (when plate is connected to lens mount) but the thing is so adjustable it's never caused a problem.

I've a 055 classic, and a markins 20 head on it. It allows the use of "L" brackets on the camera, which are much more useful than you could imagine.

Of the heads listed, I have only used the 804rc2 but I found it solid, responsive and smooth to use. BTW, i got it as part of an offer on technikdirekt.com in november, with a 190prob, for about €150 delivered.
