I would have thought the original question in this thread was a fair question.
All he did was ask a question about limits.

Please correct me if im wrong, are the public not supposed to know the legal limits on imported goods??

Are ye being a bit too strict mods?? or is there something I am not aware of??

Ya it's a fair question the first time its asked but I'm sure if he check the stickys or searched the forum he would have found his answer without needing to ask the question and its not the first time that question was asked.

Yes they are, but would it have killed him to search the forum for the answer?

Some mods are stricter than others. I'm not saying fuzzy was to strict.
and yes their is some thing your not aware off, this is the Online Buying & Auctions forum not the feedback forum.

yes it seems there is something you are not aware of...

IMO the majority of the boards.ie mods are arrogant and have a "little hitler" syndrome.. I imagine if you met them in real life you would see them for what they really are..

Of course a normal person would have told the guy that the question has already been answered and perhaps posted the link.. not treathen to ban him without an explanation..

Oh and the backseat mods are an even lower lifeform .. ;)

Excellent point, however I dont think it was fair to be so blunt about it and at least not provide the key information this person required - "yes there is a limit and you can find info on it here" for instance!!

If you have an issue with the moderating then take it to feedback, in fairness you have only been here no more than a month so you are hardly in a position to talk about moderators being hitlers (of course, you can have your say and opinions but tarring everyone with the same brush is not very sensible). :) Fuzzylogic doesn't bite, if you have an issue with the moderating of the forum, send him a PM or post in Feedback. The poster in the original thread was looking to avoid tax, there is a sticky on tax evasion and its not allowed to be talked about.

New users have as much a right to point out things as people who are here years. Thanks for bringing this topic up. The correct forum for this sort of thing is the feedback forum, located under the "system" menu.

But unfortunately for us all tax evasion is illegal (yeah I know, WTF like!)
There have been any number of threads on this fascinating topic over the last few months.

The question has been answered and answered again. Theres a sticky about it. I don't want to be too controlling on this board, but I'd rather not see boards.ie get in trouble over posts about avoiding tax.

I dont think he was trying to avoid paying tax, I think he was weighing up the benefits of buying from ebay, against buying in a store. Nowhere in his post did he suggest he was trying to avoid it. In my opinion he was asking should he stay under a certain threshold to avoid losing out on making a bargain.

Sorry if I am wrong, but that is how I perceived it.
I have yet to experience mods being unfair.
I dont think locking the thread was unfair, I just think it was unneccessary.

Sorry Fuzzy for not going to the feedback forum, I just overreacted at the time.

dont want to get too involved,
but seems as the mod hasnt deemed to lock or move this thread then its ok to post here.

i had a look at the thread in question and the phrasing used by the poster is clearly indicative of tax avoision rather than evasion.

avoision is perfectly legal and there is nothing wrong with the post imo.

I have seen what goes on in the "feedback" forum, the resounding tone is "fcuk off if you dont like it here!" I think its pretty obvious to anyone that boards.ie has an issue with moderating, too much of it and dished out in an arrogant tone the best of times.. And just cuz im new here does not mean im new to the internet.. I have been on hundreds of forums and i actually a mod myself but i have never seen such an oppressive place as boards.ie.. Sometimes you get treathned just cuz a mod disagrees with u.. THE INTERNET IS STILL FREE AND OPEN... lets keep it that way..

It was pretty clear the guy was just looking for some advice about *avoiding* tax.. But he gets blindsided without even an explanation..

    Its like Stalinist Russia here..

I wasn't taking a shot at you for being a new user btw, just to clarify that.
Boards isn't free though, it is a privately owned website and the admins have to take responsibilty for what is posted here so it falls on their heads.
As for the original post, evasion and avoidance are pretty much the same in this matter. linkeh

    selective linking ;)
here are the correct defintions -

    avoidance -
The minimization of tax due to the Government in strict accordance with the allowances built into the taxation system

    evasion
The deliberate understatement of tax lawfully owing to the Government.

    BANNED!!! haha

Seriously they're not all bad! IMO it's just that there's so many forums to moderate that the admin (or whoever is in charge) doesn't have time to be picky about who (s)he choses as moderators.

Basically if you don't like the system get lost; because although feedback is tolerated, it doesn't get you anywhere because they'll always be loyal boards members who will fight the side of the mods.

I mean all this in the least offensive way because I have found that the mods are very nice and helpful - but just very strict.

Locked. Like I said, you can take this up in feedback if you feel strongly about it.

Oh, and have a nice day.
