ftv cards now with family pack rumour

know this probably sounds off the wall to most people, but could there be any grain of truth in this.....

A good friend in the trade has been informed by a normally reliable source last week that Sky would be issuing FTV cards with the family pack on them for an indefinite period of time and that the source had ordered some and was expecting them by the end of last week.

The reported reasoning behind this on Sky's part was that it would encourage cardholders to subscribe to premium channels.

There is absoultely no truth in this rumor its an outright scam. You pay for what you get which btw was only guaranteed for 4months and its not a FreeSat card its a subscription card with part of your payment to seller sent to sky with fake banking details, when the funds run out, the card switches of the Family pack channels and reverts to the standard FTV channels.

By all means buy one, you will get what you paid for including the 4months guarantee on the family pack channels. But thats it notting more.

Hi, what i'm hearing is that its a six month experiment and its main function is to slow down sales of FTA boxes. A lot of installers I sell to down the country have switched to digiboxes so it seems to be having the desired effect so far .

Maybe you should ring the freesat crowd instead of listening. It has already been proven that @bigpaddys card is not a Freesat card and there has been no change to the FreeSat channel lineup. Therefore I fail to see why you are contributing to these rumors/scam, is it that obvious that I dare to say it.

Anyway sorry in advance for going on about this, but its a scam and thats the bottom line, so go ahead be a part of it or find out for yourself, after all its your reputation here on boards.ie

I am merely relaying what I have heard. Perhaps you can explain why installers have switched from free to air boxes to digiboxes and furthermore I see no reason for you to respond in such a rude manner. I do not sell sky cards in any form so have no reason to promote them.

Hi Watty, have heard that the sky packages have been turned off on all the FTV cards, apparently alarm bells started ringing when they appeared on buy and sell etc as this was meant to be a limited trial

So the answer to the mystery seems to be that these were NOT regular FTV cards (Freesat From Sky) nor Subscription Cards, but a "puppy dog trial".

    Now gone.:(

I'm not too unhappy as these cards would most likely go off after 6 months anyway which would lead to negative publicity for satellite in general as no doubt they were being sold as "lasting forever". Sales of FTA boxes would also have suffered. Its an ill wind etc

It may have been something like this that started the hole thing off, baring in mind whom ever got the cards originally would have kept the box for future sales.

Possibly but would this not need the collusion of an installation company? I notice the page is marked ROI so no ch4 or 5 as these cards seem to have with a Uk epg.I think it may also be possible that somebody got hold of the sky memo proposing this and did some kind of scam on the back of the rumour. Another possibility is a clever "unofficial" marketing campaign by sky, who knows.

Sorry heres the UK link : http://survey.sky.com/gifting/Default.asp 75pounds whats that about 102-3euros the buy&sell guy was selling these (cards only) 150euro. I think the offical UK trade price for a standard box is 81pounds so its possible the UK contact kept the box sold on the card etc... nice little turn around for both parties.

EDIT: oh and the offer was that the box would be posted to whom ever the gift was for... then yeah someone would have called to do an install, but thats easily over come.

very interesting Marty, throws a new light as to what may have happened, the guys I know who were selling these had to buy the box with the card.

To be fair it some of the cards could well have been part of a scam on the back of this but until we know exactly what the position is I think its pointless dismissing others views in the way that he did.

    The topic was http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055016276
ie: they are not freesat cards, they are cards from sky, which in the end switch off pay channels and revert to FTV cards ? The point was they were been sold as FreeSat cards which they where not. I think bad marty proved that, yes / no ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    FTV cards *ARE* from Sky.

We have never exactly established 100% what was in Sky's mind. They, along with normal UK subscription card, cancelled UK sub Card, Freesat From Sky card are all Sky cards that work for C4 and Five till Sky issue a series III card.

Please don't try and pick arguments, Marty or Aquos76.

Informative posts, not arguing who is right or wrong is what makes the Forums work. Any Trolling, Bitching or Moaning the Thread gets locked and anyone really disruptive, might get banned.

Sorry, but would you like to tell me how I was trying to pick an argument. I was merely asking where Bad Marty was to give his opinion on this now as he was full sure that there were people signing up to sky and cancelling DD so as they could offer these cards.

Well first of all there are no such thing as a FTV card, the term "FTV card" comes from an expired Sky Subscription card, you can't phone sky and ask them for a FTV card. @bigpaddy stated he had a FreeSat card that had all 6mix channels, what he had in fact was a sky subscription card.

If anyone thought, they where buying a FreeSat card with 6mix channels, they would have been scammed 100%, if anything the buyandsell guy (Dave) should have just stated exactly what he was selling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    Rubbish.

    A FTV card is either:
    1) A BBC Solus card upgraded in card re-issue
    2) A Sky "Freesat from Sky" card
    3) An expired but unkilled UK Sky sub card
    4) Anything else Sky decides.

Currently ALL cards are issued by Sky. All card where and are BskyB/NDS property. They can make them do what ever they want.

There *DOES* seem to have been some experimental promotion, now stopped.

Please all stop arguing about nuances of who is right and wrong when obviously no-one has the full facts.

    Finger poised above banning button

As Watty says, absolute rubbish. How do you know what cards big paddy had? As Watty also says its best to leave this subject alone until the facts become clear one way or the other and not argue based on speculation.

If you read @bigpaddys thread you will read for yourself that he has an expired sky subscription card.
