Something a psychic told me has been bugging me....

Hello, so sorry if this is the wrong place for this. Hope I got it right!

So I went to a psychic/medium at the RDS today. She was very good, but one thing she kept saying has been playing on my mind. She kept talking about my future boyfriends and that. The thing is I'm a lesbian! I did mention that later on and she changed her 'he's' to 'she's'.

But what does this mean? Is it that she saw romance in store for me and just presumed it was a boy or would a psychic definitely see a male or female figure?

Also one more thing, my parents don't know. I'm worried because my mother goes to a lot of psychics. Would she be told something like this or is it normal for them to leave personal information out??

    Dory,

i think you are reading too much into this. Most likely answer is that she's either just not a very good "sidekick, or at best she just sees a partner as a partner etc.

Put it this way, if you were straight, and she started talking about your future girlfriend, what would you think!!.

I would'nt worry about the parents either, if your physic could only see your future "boyfriends", then I would not spend too much time worrying about the possibility that another physic is going to see your mothers, daughters "boyfriend" or otherwise, if you know what I mean.

You do know their not real dont you ?

Have you never seen the programs about how they have people standing around listening in on you and then giving the information they get to the psychic/medium. It is all a con.

The time paradox rules this type of reading into the future absolutly inconclusive. Same goes for card reading and every other type of this nonsence. At the best it can be precieved as what MIGHT happen, or what COULD happen. Not what will happen.

There has to be some truth to it! I'm a scientific person myself so it's very hard for me to believe any of it.
But she mentioned a place in Dublin, and said there is a person there who misses me. My ex is from there! Im not from Dublin or anything and she said the exact place she's living in.
If it's fake that a BIG coincidence....

Hi Dory, I wouldn't put to much worry into this, she may have expressed any future relationships in the he form, but as been said before your future is in your hands and a good psychic should always tell you this. If your mom goes to one I would douth any psychic would tell her that your gay as she is going to get her reading done for herself and while you may feature in the reading I would not think any of them would pick up that your gay from your mothers reading. Maybe you should think on telling her yourself? Although I would like to point out not all psychic are fakes, some yes, some no.

    Hey there,

Firstly can I back up what kshiel says, not all psychics are fakes.

Secondly I wouldn't worry about the psychic telling you about your future partners. Of course if you're gay then your future is telling you about partners of your preference, it's just that it takes quite a bit of experience to see a person's sexuality in the cards. Perhaps your preference didn't come through so she assumed you were into guys and told you accordingly. If I was you I would just take everything she said about guys and think about it in terms of girls.

Would your mother be told - I can't imagine so, the only way it might come up would be if your mother was told that there was a secret or something she doesn't know.

But as kshiel says for your own peace maybe think about telling her (that's a different conversation though)

In conclusion don't worry, apply the boy stuff to girls and don't worry about your mother

    Good luck to you

    Ladybird:)

Anti, this forum is for discussing the paranormal, not for making blanket blanket dismissals of it, if you wish to continue posting here please read the charter and abide by it. If you do have evidence that all psychics are conmen/women please feel free to provide (but as that would be a different topic please start a new thread to do so).

I have to say that personally I would never give someone elses secret away to the person I was reading. If it was necessary I might encourage them to spend a bit more quality chatting time with the person but wouldn't straight out say what the secret was. That would be invading someones life that didn't ask for it. It's one of my own personal rules.

Some people pretend to be psychic and some really are.

Also when in a reading.......only sometimes are we given the specifics of a persons future partner.....and often psychics use symbols for romantic partners that apply to all clients not to the gender. So it could be possible for them to misread the signal as a heterosexual partner. I often think reading cards is like reading a story book without the words and not always is there enough pictures to show every word of the story.....if that makes sense .....sometimes you have to jump from one picture to the next and miss out some of the detail. Also, if you only had a short reading (10-15 mins.) it would be harder to give absolute details in the reading regarding sexual orientations etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

I went to the fortune teller on saturday,........her name began with a G and she was dark haired, dublin accent. Anway i didn't think she was that hot. She kept on talking about my sister, i don't have a sister.

Also she'd check with me was my mother or father alive before she started talking about them.

However if you reckon she was spot on, was she reading from card??? the cards as far as i know usually depict the sexes via king, queen paige,..etc. Ie king for male , queen for female? Of course everyone reads them differently!

No she wasn't reading cards. She just held my hands. She said she's doesn't do cards, she's more of a medium.

    Thanks for all the advice!

I would take all of what those sold called psychics say with a grain of salt.
Remember this is a stranger, they have no qualification in their "field".
If I went up to you and said I will fix the brakes on your car, would you say ok simply because I said I could do it or because I had a fancy hand drawn sign stating I was a mechanic?

I would be a lot more interested in what these people say about the past, as it has already happened and is therefore verifiable. But they would have to be very very specific, not just saying someone missed me in an area of Dublin.
The future is a lot more risky. If she tells you that you are going to meet someone in a month, then you will probably have it on your mind and make it happen yourself. Therefore the psychic isn't reading your future, but influencing it.

Dory, its classic fishing. here |I don't know you but I'll give you a reading. Oh I see someone that's important to you in a uniform does that mean anything?

Actually it doesnt sound like fishing, if she named a specific place in Dublin when the OP isnt even from Dublin then thats not really fishing.

She quoted Ireland's biggest city and said you know someone from there:confused:

I am not convinced one way or t'other and I have seen experiments that have been amazing but I do draw the line at the dozens of clients a night every Thursday, Friday and Saturday brigade. Just for the record do you know anyone who wears a uniform?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

I'm taking it that as per the OP the reader mentioned a place in Dublin (by naming the place) as oppose to just saying "a place in Dublin".

Also by saying that someone there missed her, and that she had an ex from Dublin (again I mention that the OP is not from Dublin) - I would presume that her ex "may" miss her. Not the most detailed or impressive reading but you are dismissing it based on knowing very few details of it.

As for me knowing someone in uniform ... yes, but if you could tell me a specific part of Dublin that there is someone with a relevant connection to me than I might ask you to expand. That said I am from Dublin so you already have more info on me than the reader had on the OP.

Of course I am willing to put more thought into this and question things, unlike yourself who is willing to dismiss it based on a few lines of text.

You are also willing to believe it based on a few lines of text. Oh I see Dublin does that mean something (and before you know it you have told them something which they then feed back to you).

As for me guessing a uniform means something to you, I don't have a psychic bone in my body but I gave a classic fishing line.

6th I am not having a go, in fact my own father had a paranormal experience that still creeps me. My father was from Carrigart, my uncle Barney from Downings and every friday night the two of them would cycle past each other on their way to the other town (their favourite pubs wer ein each others village), as they past they would exchange names. Anyway, three months after Barney's death my dad is on his usual Friday night journey (still sober at this point) and he spots Barney on his bike coming towards him. My dad admitted it completely freaked him out but he just kept his head down and kept cycling, as they past he distinctly heard his name being called out.

I'm not questioning whether you believe in the paranormal or not, I just have a problem with you telling the Op that "its classic fishing" when even the minimal ammount of detail we have been given would at least lead us to ask more or lean towards a genuine reading.

I would have taken the same approach to anyone who made a comment like that, so its not personal.

Ha! I can't believe this is still going on.

Just to clear a few things up, yes an exact place in Dublin was mentioned. Like Rathfarnham or Churchtown. That specific. And I am not from Dublin so I definitely don't think it was fishing.

In fairness, I think this particular psychic sounds fake to me. Granted, I don't know any of the details, but it from what you told us it just seems fishy. As said before, just because she says she's psychic, doesn't mean she is (and with psychics, the problem will always be proving it!).

Things like changing the he's to she's after you told her you were a lesbian, or naming a place in our capital city where "someone" misses you, just seems like fishing to me.Ok, a psychic is never going to give you specifics, but these seem too vague to be taken seriously. Sorry, to say it, but I think you were taken for (presumably an expensive) ride.

As for you mothers psychic, as said before, if the person she goes to really is psychic, then I'd say it's safe to assume that a) she knows it's a secret and/or b) has the cop on not to say anything about it. And if she's a fake, then she will assume you're straight. So basically you've nothing to worry about :)

If your mother goes to the same one that you went to, I don't think you need worry:D

..that one sounded like a complete phoney

I didnt think any claim was made that "all psychics are con artists" was it?
And doesent providing evidence that they are all con artists amount to "proving a negative". surely it if for the person who claims to be psychic to provide the evidence and not for someone else to "prove them wrong"?

I wonder if you understand the concept of fishing? Look up "false negatives" and "false positives" . Lets say they got a hit with "Howth" . did they not mention anywhere else in Dublin? Are you really sure NO OTHER part of Dublin was mentioned? You see there is a tendency to forget the misses.
