    €5,000 Guaranteed tonight

How many tickets do you think there will be given out tonight as it seems that the majority of the prize money is given out in tickets now.

It would be better if there was a set number of maybe 2 or 3 tickets per week and the rest of the money was paid out.

I think people would be far more inclined to play it if this was the case.

    Hello Iceman78,

Last week there was 4 tickets given out on the night. The winner John Weafer (well done) took home €1500 cash plus a €300 ticket to the New Years Day Cup totaling €1800

As regards tickets, we are running a numbers of events which have the bigger buy-ins these tickets are officially non transferable or refundable but PokerEvents have done everything in their powers to accommodate player who have won tickets in the past.

Yes people might be more inclined to play if it was a cash only payout but The Red Cow is a satellite tournament for our Super Satellites http://www.pokerevents.ie/supersats.asp. Which in-turn feed The Irish Poker Championship (The IPC) http://www.pokerevents.ie/IPC.asp

Never once have I ever witnessed the majority (>50%) of the payout being paid out in the form of tickets.

    Regards

    Stephen

    Stephen,

I understand these are satellite tournaments but this is not how you market them. You are saying that its €5,000 guaranteed. This leads people to believe that it will be a cash payout.

I have no problems with tickets being given out as part of the payout if this is mentioned beforehand. For you to say that the tickets are non refundable or non transferable is a joke. If this was the case, there would be no one playing in red cow for next few weeks as id say half the normal field down there already have these tickets. I understand that pokerevents usually help people to get rid of these tickets if they have won a couple of them.

With regards to your last comment, im not sure about that as i heard that 7 tickets were given out 2 weeks ago plus a ticket for best hand and a ticket for the bounty. If this was the case, then that is over 50% of the payout.

Dont get me wrong, i enjoy pokerevents tourneys and will continue to play them but i would just rather if people knew the payout structure in advance of the tourney. This should be possible if you are guaranteeing 5K as surely you can say how many tickets will be given plus maybe one extra ticket for every 1k over 5k that ends up in the payout.

    Regards,
    Iceman

    Hello Iceman,

In regard to tickets given out two week ago, PokerEvents guaranteed €5000 and on the night the Prize pool only added up to €3,200 therefore the money added (€1800) was distributed in the form of tickets. The total in tickets was €2,400 and cash €2,600. This keeps it at less then 50%.

However this was an exception as we did not expect to have such on overlay. In general the ratio should not and will not be this even.

I do understand the points you are making and we will give you them serious consideration. Thank you for your feedback.

I am glad you enjoy our tournaments and will continue to attend

    Regards

    Stephen

Great tourney, more play at the final table than usual. Finished 8th in the end after i got some guy to call my all-in with top pair on the turn, he hit a 9 on the river for a straight. id two pair.

i dont feel to unlucky though as everyone who went all in with the best hand at the ft got dogged.

Who won this last night an what sort of runners did it get? I couldnt make it because i had to catch up on some sleep but it was a decent tournie last week so just wondering if it carried on from that.

Anyone know the results for this from last night.

It looks like a good game and would have liked to have stuck around for a bit longer but it was not to be last night.

Enjoyed this last night, went out about 12:30 in 10th position, raised on the button with A10 and got reraise by the cl, felt he thought I was on a steal so decided to gamble, he had AJ, so goodnite Ollie.

In a hand before that, player raise utg, player in the SB goes all in for 16k, I've AK, I decided to fold thinking the player utg would call and have a monster, he called alright with 44, Sb player had 99 and the flop came AAQ, ouch. Would have treble me up nicely.

Johnnyl was still around when I left along with Reggie(not cardshark) and Nick I think.

Good game and plenty of play for a change.

Good lord, would that €300 not be better served in the main prizepool?

Better than last week Tony. 70+ Runners. Standard of play was mixed. If they keep this up I can see this game getting back up to 100 runners each week. Not sure who won it in the end as I didn't hang around.

This this raise really mean strength anymore?? I see this done with with J10s and KJs and all sorts of cr@p and its usually a min raise. Your gut instinct probably said call so its a pity you didnt follow it through. Unlucky Ollie on the button hand, i'd have thought u were at it too!

Yeh Tony, I should have called, but it would have left me in good shape if the utg player had won the hand.

The button play was poor in that the BB was a average player, he like to call raise with suit cards etc, but not re-raise, re-raise meant he had a hand and I should have fold, but I only had 19k behind, so worth the gamble.

Now bring some of that money you won on Sunday to Drogheda and buy me a pint...lol

Of course not!! I would say that though wouldnt I. On a serious note I actully think a high hand and bounty-prizes are good for tournaments imho

I think they are wasteful uses of prizemoney.

We dont do them here in the cue club, but they do have their uses.
In most tournaments with 50+ players in, any decent player could name at least half the field that have absolutely no chance of final tabling.Yet without all these players, the tournament wouldnt have a big enough prize pool to be a success. So some prizes for high hand, bounty etc (although they could be won by a good player as well) is not all that bad a thing.
€300 prizes are probably a bit high though, maybe free entry the following week(value €100) would be more apt.(IMHO)

300 seems abit steep for highest hand.. he got more than 7th ffs

    Hello

Connie has made some good points. High Hands and Bounty Player prizes are awarded for the good of the tournament and to encourage players to come along. The more players the greater the prize pool.

Everyone has the same chances to win it. But the longer you are in the tournament, the more hands you make, this increases your chances. Its a great bonus to the player who wins it.

As regards the €300 value of the ticket:

    1) It gives the pub tournament qualifiers who may not dream of paying into a €300 event a chance to play one

    2) It gives the half of the field connie referred to a chance to play the bigger events

    3) If its won by any if the better players they are delighted

All in all, it would be great if one of our pub tournament paid €25+€5, won a ticket into our New Years Day Cup and from there went on to qualify for The IPC.... All for €30.

These prizes add to the atmosphere, increase numbers and the winner always goes home with a smile on their face.

    Regards

    Stephen

I know there are certain angles that high hand prizes etc are useful from, but to the other players that generally have a chance of achieving something it is nearly an extra form of registration that detracts from the real prize pool. However, if people are aware that these type of awards from the prizepool are made before they sign up to play then this is fair enough.

Personally I don't like them, but there you are. I'd still take one if it happened to be me, but hypocrite is my middle name after all.
