Ditto, had to pay by credit card cause i forgot to get cash.

    extra 1.50 per ticket :(

got mine on line - got 3 tickets row A on the balcony, and i got a nice €12 "convienience charge" as they are calling it now,

This will be a cracking show , last year in vicar st. was one of the best shows ive ever seen in all my years going to gigs, Ben is a true performer and kinda reminded me of better frames gigs from years gone by what with all his stories between songs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

i hope he get the crowd to do a "bitchin' horn section" if he plays "Army"

i missed the last concert due to the fact that i had leaving cert english that day and also had gone to see weezer the night before.

Tickets booked. Standing for me. Kast time I was sitting up around two feet away from the man. Alas it was all seated, but the whole audience got up for 1 Angry Dwarf. Bee-utiful.
His concert last year was seriously the best gig I was ever at. Best audience participation around.
"B***es Aint S**t" Live is a thing of beauty.
And Cremo, I'm pretty sure a bitchin horn section is on the cards. It was last time anyway.

Does anyone know if this gig is sold out?? My grapevine is running slow so I didn't hear about it till a few mins ago. Dying to go but I'm getting this from Ticketmaster "Sorry, but this event no longer exists in our database."

    Any ideas???

Thats strange. Never seen that before. If it was sold out it would usually just say tickets not currently on sale or somethin like this
    Your request is not available
There were no tickets available that matched your request
so maybe its just a temporary computery problem...you should hope so! Maybe drop them a mail

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 248 ✭✭film_gonzo

    Got it in the end.Thanks.

Dunno why but the site was doing all sorts of strange things like first telling me nothing was on their database about the gig, then telling me that there was no gig in Ireland, then when I finally got to the ticket buying stage it wouldn't let me cause it said it needed my phone number in the form which I'd filled out several times in different ways.

Eventually i had to go in and set up all the payment details in my account (which for some reason thinks I'm in England even though, once again, I've changed it several times to say Ireland) and then when I went back in to buy the tix it just asked me for my credit card security number.

So even though I nearly burst a blood vessel, I got my ticket for the princely sum of E41 after 4.50 'handling' charge.

But hey, I'm going to Ben Folds (my first time seeing him live) so who cares.

Ben is known to be a man of the people. You could well be lucky and meet him if ye hang around for a while afters. Id love to meet him as well, but I don't know if Id hang around afters and take the risk.

just back from the gig...which was kickin'

great to see Neil Hannon out for Bitches Aint ****....

As someone who's relatively new to Ben Folds i thought it was fantastic!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Mr Rivers

Aye, enjoyed it! Highlights being Neil Hannon not knowing the words to Bitches Ain't ****, Ascent of Stan and his cover of Such Great Heights

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,019 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

As a long term and very adament Folds fan I was equally delighted with this concert.
We got a Rock This B***h Dublin!
Only problem perhaps is that the setlist was a bit too focused on the newer albums. But overall the songs chosen were excellent, and was great to see rarer classics like Kate and Underground thrown in.
Roll on Vicar Street concert number three!
PS Such Great Heights remains amongst the strongest BF covers. Immense.

only thing missing from set was 'inbetween days' but postal service cover which alot of folks didnt seem to get was an pants wetting moment for me,

picture added and full set on video on you tube asap search superfint ;-) for the moment see pic attached. and the word 'fag' spelt in tape beside the bassplayer lol

Best gig I've seen him in, and I've seen him three times in Dublin. The night he blew Neil Hannon off the stage in the Ambassador, seated in Vicar St and now standing at this last one.

Fantastic stuff, the crowd were really up for it, and so was Folds, loads of impromptu jamming... Purple Haze being one. That weird assed synth! I was going to heckle "theme to the Rockford Files" but thought better of it :D Started with the latest stuff, then ended with Underground. Only two or three songs from the "Five" days. Drummer was brilliant.

Sounds class, did he play Songs of Love with Hannon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    No, Joe.

Really enjoyed the gig. The Postal Service cover was a complete surprise to me - brilliant stuff. As stated above though I'm not sure if a lot of the crowd recognised the song - thought it odd that so many Ben Folds fans wouldn't know the Postal Service. Or maybe it's just nobody else likes 'em?

Liked Ben's conducting of the crowd from atop his piano and his little song about having to leave his keyboard at home because it wouldn't work with European power.

Thought Clem Snide was pretty good as support - I'd never seen him before and may well go check out some of his albums.

Afterwards was told that the bass player played on the Graceland album with Paul Simon. This is complete **** - the guy couldn't be more than 30. People at gigs talk such **** sometimes.

Also just in case he's on here - to the guy with the 80's hair cut who asked me to stop talking when I was at the back of Vicar St during the support act - I said it last night and I'll say it again today: If you really really want to hear the support act with nobody talking around you then go up to the front and stop standing at the back you moron.

    Thank you.

I wish it were that simple. i was at the front. these two d4 assholes decided it'd be fun to rip the piss out of clem snide. now id never heard of the guy before but they were being really loud and obnoxious. so it doesnt really matter where you are... just whisper if ya can.
and yeah i guess not that many people know the postal service..despite being on countless shows and being covered by countless bands..

I'll see your "guy with 80's hair cut" and raise you 5 x 16-ish year girls who were standing behind me, screaming (and I mean screaming - they hadn't a note between them) the words to "bitches ain't ****" (possibly because it allowed them to say naughty words like **** and **** where mommy and daddy wouldn't hear).

Although I did find the irony of them assaulting my ears roaring the words to Rockin' the Suburbs and then, in all likelyhood, going outside to be picked up mommy in her SUV amusing.

And finally, they had prepared som kind of Ben Folder - I kid you not, a folder with a picture of the great man on the front and god knows what inside. They were roaring "Ben, Ben, Ben" and when he looked up one of them held it up and said "Its a Ben Folder" - I swear he saw it, realised what it was and then ignored them".

Yeah - that was probably them. I'd imagine the chances of 2 people creating a Ben Folder are fairly slim.

'twas a great gig alright - and if there is a funnier sight than Neil Hannon singing Bitches Ain't Sh1t, I haven't seen it.

Forget about Neil Hannon I'm pretty sure I banged into the evil that is Glen Hansard on the way out of the jacks after the gig. I'm hoping it was just a poor unfortunate that looks like him - anyone else spot the ginger bollix hanging around? I thought he'd left the country.

    great videos, great show.

such great heights was my highlight, as it was so unexpected.

oh and the synth was absolutely brilliant.

just when i was thinking you'd know the next part in the song would sound great if he used that synth, and he did it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Superfint

Have to say aside from The Postal service cover-"The Ascent of Stan" & "Underground" were the highlights for me,complete shocker!!

Heres another Vid,much more steady than the others!

I thought it was a great gig, although I felt a bit young amoungest all the 20somthings. Im used to jumping up and down and waving my arms like I just dont care alot more at gigs

I drove from Galway and drove back afterwards for the gig, it was pretty good, he's one talented mofo but after driving so far for it I would of hoped the crowd would of been a little more up for it, seemed pretty flat till the end. I know alot of his music isn't very up beat but the majority of what he played was pretty high tempo

Hey Don't knock the girls, its not all 16 year old girls that appreciate good music and take into account their 16 year old girls!...Gotta give props to the guy who shouted "Don't You Hate Pants!" when Ben started listing the Drummers interests
