Apple Internet Connection Problem

hi... i wonder if somebody could offer me some advice about a problem with a mac that I have encountered... My sister has an Ibook G4 and during the week it stopped connecting to the Internet. She lives away from home at college and connects to the internet via an ethernet connection there... she says that last tuesday she woke up and couldn`t connect to the internet. Well she came home yesterday and although she usually can use the net through the wireless network in our house, that no longer works either... basically the ibook appears to be connected to the router, but everytime you try and open safari it says that the page cannot be opened because it cannot find the server.

I know our wireless connection is working because it works fine with my PC laptop which I`m using to write this. has anyone came across this? or does anyone have any possible solution? thanks... any help would be greatly appreciated!

The browser might be redirecting requests to a college proxy server. Check the LAN connection settings in the browser to make sure that the browser isn't being told to redirect through a non-existent server as far as your home connection is concerned.

It ought to be set to automatically detect the IP, but take note of the proxy IP, then your sister mightn't be able to connect in college!

You could try using a different browser as well, like Firefox. As far as I know all its proxy settings are separate.

    Apple menu (top left screen)
scroll to location > network preferences
Airport should be green indicating that you are connected
    2x Click on Airport
    Click on proxy tab
De-select any proxies if they are selected and apply now.

    Hopefully this works
(BTW reselect proxies when back in college,)

thanks for the help guys... unfortunately nothing seems to be working... see i dont think it is just safari, because other applications like itunes and skype can`t connect to the internet either... i think this is well outside my realm of experience so a call to apple may be in order... thanks again for all your help
