New build DVD ATA not been detected

    Hi all,
Did my very first complete build from scratch. Newbie to this so please forgive any ignorance:).
Got an annoying problem in that that the DVD ATA is not been detected, and hence can't load Windows etc.
Been to the BIOS and the SATA Hard Disks are been detected fine.
The DVD is on its own IDE cable with it been connected to the master end, and the motherboard end been connected to the motherboard. The switch is also set to master. The cable isn't sharing with any other devices. I did confirm it does indeed have power.:) Tried resetting the BIOS etc..

Now the interesting bit i got from the BIOS. If you boot up with the SATA drives and the DVD drive connected it assigns the SATA drives (2 of them) to IDE channels 3 and 4, where it reports 1 and 2 as unused. Disconnect the DVD drive and leave just the SATA drives and they move to IDE channels 1 and 2.

Any ideas? I really need help.

try a different cdrom to see if it gets detected as drive may be faulty.

Don't shoot me of this doesn't work but I had a similar problem using a DVD drive on it's own on an IDE cable. I solved it by setting the drive to Slave mode and connecting it to the middle connector on the cable.
    Worth a try :)
