got it on friday and have to say im lovin it, its really a big step forward for microsoft, which i have to admit i was gettin a little p*st off with for a while with their lack of decent games. Multiplayer is great but i may be new to this but why do you not spawn again in the game. Whats your opinion on this title ?? and yes i know i sound like a gow whore.

Fantastic game and the multiplayer is phenomenal, kept me up until 7am last night. It's been a while since a game has done that.

It's really good, so violent and clever. It took me a while to master active reloads, dodging and taking cover. I'm playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance more at the moment, but once I've completed that, I'll be devoting myself fully to GoW.

Yeah it a quality game and quality online, until you meet an american retard (usually) who has mastered the art of sticking grenades to you.

Anyway defo my favorite game overall.
(COD3 is my fave online though, can't get enough of that multiplayer action!)

The nade sticks can be avoided, generally some quick rolls plus a shotgun will do it (and blindfire if you see them coming, then roll away). It is very annoying, but at least you get the chance to take them out with you.

In a similar vein, there was some great guys on last night but it seems a lot of the halotards have predictably migrated over to GoW. Little 12 year old kids screaming down the mic with their high frequency voices just within my hearing threshold "Like, Oh mi gawwwd, you f**king idiooooot, GAAAWWWWD".

Would love to play a co-op game, but my only mate who has a 360 doesn't have live!! (not interested in split screen)
Ah well, single player is plenty good.

I found the beserkers a bit un-predictable, but once you get them into the open they are easily avoided and dispatched.

If you see me on, feel free to invite me while you're playing your campaign (so you still get the achivements and junk) and I would be glad to tag along. As I am sure many others on the forums would be.

Got it yesterday in Virigin for €60 plus a free face plate.

Savage game. Still getting used to it. Havent played a decent game on the 360 till this game came out. Well worth the wait. More games like this are needed.

    Hey,

This game sounds fantastic and the boyf has been goin on about it for ages so i'm gonna give in and buy it for him... any ideas where i can get it remotely cheap?? I spotted it for €80 the other day which doesnt help my bank balance!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭0ubliette

Its quality, it really is. My only gripe is the bosses are way too easy. And also
you dont get to fight that big feckin monster with the massive cannon strapped to it! rip off!!
Aside from that it doesnt get any better on the 360. Co-op is so good it comes close to being legendary, multiplayer is excellent if a little frustrating at times, and single player is just perfect. Anyone up form some multiplayer? Ive been mostly playing with some english mates from gamesradar, wouldnt mind some irish killins. gamertag = teh an1m4l, feel free to add me.

awesome game... its easlily the best game on the 360 so far by a country mile and really does look properly next generation. This is the sort of thing I was hoping we would get often on the 360 but sadly not. Most other 360 games look last gen compared to this only in high res. Hopefully Gears of War will change this situation and we'll see lots of unreal 3 powered games that are quality just like this.

FoXXy, cheapest in a store in Dublin would be in HMV (€58). Though if it's as a gift, I'd consider getting the limited edition tin set, saw that in Smyths for €62.99 I think (with their loyalty card, but that's free anyway, though that might be a temporary price for the first week of release).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,562 ✭✭✭Snaga

The Smyths Loyalty card is not free at all (Not 100% sure, its either 2eur or 5eur now).

As I found out when I went to buy GoW the other day but had misplaced my card. There was no offer to look up my details (I requested it) - only solution offered? - buy another loyalty card.

I said 'no thanks' and bought it from Harvey Norman down the road for 56eur (No loyalty card needed).

56eur is the cheapest Ive seen it.

I bought this game as well and I love it! I didn't realise you could play co-op online. I've been playing it by myself or split screen co-op with my wife. Must give online co-op play a try when I get home this evening.

~€52.20 in HMV with a student card.

    Nice and romatic like!

How long is the game? Compare it to say Halo 2.

yeah halo 2 has finally been knocked off the NO.1 position, only took 2 years!

Regular, nothing really interested me in the CE.

imo this is the best game ever on a microsoft console... easily beats Halo and Halo 2.

And I'm impressed. Very impressed :)

I got COD3 last week and it epitomised everything that rang hollow about the 'next gen' hype. Despite all the waffle about the graphics, I think the graphics in COD2 are more attractive and easier on the eye. And COD2 is certainly just an upscaled xbox title. The scripting in COD3 was ham fisted and clumsy, the acting poor, the game mechanics imprecise. There is a whole legion of bugs which constantly break the illusion (and irritate in the extreme). Basically, the more I think about it, it's a stinker. A thoroughly unsatisfying experience (which isn't really a surprise as Treyarch balls up the xbox version of COD2 to similiar effect).

Gears is something else entirely. It stinks of high production values. Graphically, it's absolutely beautiful. Moreso, the graphics serve the story and heighten the experience, never getting in the way. The music is superb and appropriate. The cutscenes are superbly done. And the gameplay is genuinely innovative (to me at least). This, for me, is in steep contrast to whats gone before and hopefully, it's the start of something new for the 360.

And, like Snaga, the Berserkers make me cry :p

Agreed on the graphics just fantastic, the Audio is what really impresses me though it seems to be linked entirely to the level action in the area your in. Listen carefully even if you cower in cover while chaos reigns all around the music is loud, brash and building tension as soon as the last one drops it calms down. Have Microsoft finally cracked Game music scores?

Ah but the beserkers aren't a problem, they're big and clumsy.

Its those little wretches that bother me, fast and vicious. When a few of them get up close i'm usually a gonner.

the beserker was the best bit of the game so far for me. im just after killing the corpser and that was very disappointing and piss easy.

Thats why you keep a shotgun as your back up, dont even aim, just pull the trigger a few times and hope for the best :)

if they are the exploding wretches then just shotgun and dive after shooting. easy peasy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,564 ✭✭✭quad_red

I've just reached the first Berserker.

You can only have two optional weapons (with the other two berths being taken by grenades and the hand gun).

Now, I'm loathe to put down the Hammer of Dawn designator, less I totally screw myself and can't get another.

Can it be dropped in place of a shotgun, with a replacement picked up easily later?

Or should I keep hold of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 JayKay

Myself and my mate finished it splt screen coop. Everything about the game from it graphics down to its timing is sublime. Including a classic gaming moment when both myself and the character on screen yelled $h*t at exactly the same time. - Top Top Game

Generally if one is needed they will be readily available. If you have not beat him yet, hang onto it.

I'm there too. Sure it tells you more or less to hang on to Hammer of Dawn and use it a small bit later after meeting the Berserker.

I'm on to this section of the game too. It seems quite easy to shoot the Corpser but I eventually run out of bullets and have to get more ammo which results in me having to run practically under his legs. I presume you just have to keep shooting his belly?
