    what to put this as my backround but want it in black and white my res is 1600*1200

    can someone advise me on a bit of software to do the job or be so kind as to asist im not looking for anything heavy like photoshop just a once off quickie

    You can do a good black and white conversion in any basic editing program, even paint (but its is literally just black and white and not greyscale!) Microsoft photo editor (comes with MS office) is a nice simple choice. Simply right click on your image in photo editor pick properties and change type to 8bit greyscale.
    If you want a more fancy conversion Photoshop may be more useful, I'm sure someone here i'll oblige if you fix your broken link.

    The 1600x1200 conversion alone would make it awefully pixellated, other than that this image isn't really suitable for a B&W conversion.
