    Following up on the previous post

    copying a flash movie from webpage

    I have viewed a webpage and there is a flash movie on the page. I want to download the flash movie onto my own pc for my own use in another application.

    I have tried to save the webpage and then view the movie also , but it doesnt movie doesnt save when i download it . I also tried to right click on the mouse and save target as but this doesnt seem to work either as a flash menu comes up.

    I have macromedia studio 8 software ( which includes flash basic 8 and professional 8) on my pc also.

    Is there any way in which i can get the movie down onto my computer and play offline??

    Any suggestions would be greatfully welcomed.

    Mod: Building & Upgrading Firefox + Video Downloader extension will allow you to grab the file. Rename it as something.flv and you can play it in various media players like MPC or VLC.

    Sorry for posting this again , but i am a complete novice with this sort of thing.
    I want to know how I can actually edit the flash movie with the flash software and set it up so that it will appear as an animation in powerpoint. when i download it a flvs - can i edit it then.

    Also i want to be able to play the file just in windows media player - i presume that it mpg will play in all versions of wmp.

    I would appreicate if you could leave the thread open for a while as i am a complete novice with this and surely will have a few difficulties.
    Thanks.

    Here's a crazy idea - why not try it?

    It took me all of 1 minute to download the Firefox extension and another 30 seconds to begin downloading a flash movie.

    We were all novices at one stage. The only way we stopped being a novice was by trying things out.

    Try somehting, if it doesn't work, then post it up here and someone may be able to help.

    The graphic or animation has a .swf extension - i have followed the directions and renamed the file accordingly as "film.flv" and it looks like it has downloaded ok - but only because i can see the icon.

    When i click on the flash icon- ie the file "film.flv", the flash player ( Macromedia flash 8 player i have installed) opens up , but the file wont play and the player stays blank.

    any suggestions would be welcomed.

    FLV is a Flash movie format. It can't be decompiled back into Flash.

    The best way to deal with it is get Riva Encoder. This allows you to convert Flash to AVI and back again.
    http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?encoder&L=3

    Once its in AVI format. You can edit the format in Flash (as far as I know).

    As for downloading, just create a dummy webpage with a HREF on it pointing to the file. Then right click and download the link.

    Or you can use
    http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

    How do i set up that dummy webpage HREF- I have tried to use http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php already , but this only seems to work on a list of specificed sites. and the site i want to take it off is on another site.

    Also i want to take another streaming video from abc news website. How can i do this ? - would the windows media player mentioned in the FAQs work for this?

    ps tried video downloader for abc website but it doesnt seem to work

    View the source and look for the FLV file path.

    Then create this file on your desktop. Call it aaa.html
    <HTML>
    <HEAD><TITLE></TITLE></HEAD>
    <BODY>
    Download by right clicking on
    <A HREF="****">
    this
    </A>
    .
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    Change the **** to the URL of the FLV file. Then open the file in a browser and right click the link and save as.

    Yes that seems to work . Thanks a mill !!

    I am able to download the file on to my computer , but when i try to open it in the Macromedia flash it wont let me edit it the flash as it says that it is protected. - i have flash professional also , will this allow me to un proctect it.

    Basically what i want to do now , is get this flash movie to play in a powerpoint slide as an animation within powerpoint itself if possible. the animations in powerpoint seem to be .gif files , so would i need to change this flash file into a gif file or if i change it into a .avi file as you said above , would this work also in power point. ( or would it 'call' media player to play it)

    If i can change it into gif , would this take away the quality

    When i tried to import the flash file into the powerpoint as an animation , it wouldnt allow me.

    I just want the file in .gif or to be able to just insert a file with media player as i dont know what software is on other peoples machine.

    I already said you can't open the file in Flash editor.

    SWF + FLV are compiled Flash files. It like getting an EXE file and thinking it will open in notepad.

    You would need a flash decompiler if any exist.

    If the file you save plays in your browser then it should work in powerpoint. You just need to use OLE to import it as a flash file (and have the flash player installed).

    But converting to an AVI is a better way to go. You can then use VirtualDub then (also free) to convert it to multiple gifs if you want.

    i got Software now so that i have the swf convert into .gif but the software i got converted all the .gif into individual frames and pictures instead of leaving them all in .gif movie format.

    How can i convert or make all these invidual files into a gif movie / gif animation rather than just using the individual pictures.
