    Hi!
I want to boost the NTL digital cable signal that goes into the back of my set-top box. The cable goes from the front of the house over the roof and all the way to the back of the house - over 30 metres. The picture quailty could be better. I have good coax and connectors in place already and all good and tight!

Is it possible to amplify or boost the digital signal??

    Frank

yes, but not with ordinary amplifiers, they can't cope with the quantity of channels. But it won't help picture quality if it is poor anyway. How is the picture at the start of the 30m cable?

30m should not be a problem with good quality coax.

You need a high power cable amp of only about 12dB to 24dB Gain. If you might later add Broadband, then it needs a 10MHz to 45MHz "return" or "upstream" pass through or +6 to +12dB amp built in.

A normal TV amp has too much gain and not enough power so the channels interfere with each other and analog is unusable and Digital very blocky.

    Watty,
Any idea where I can get such an amp? When I measure the SNR using some software I have it is at around 55000 or less on some of the poor picture channels. It needs to be around 60000 this to get a better picture.

    Regards,

    Frank

Unless it is OK BEFORE the 30m cable, the amp won't help

If OK in front of 30m cable, replace the 30m cable with Satellite Cable. CT125 would be better than CT100, but harder to get F-Connectors for.

It's unlikely an Amp will solve this unless signal is PERFECT infront of cable.

Post how test in front of cable goes. An amp is expensive, new sat cable cheaper.

can you put the cable through the attic and down the other side (instead of over the roof), it will be a bit shorter, and less exposed to the weather (which over years can cause deterioration)
