While looking aroud the bookies pitch in Clonmel i was just looking at the horses odds one bookie had Sir Oj at 11-8,another 6-4.

Damn maths not the best so by the time had worked out which the best bet,the higher price nearly gone.
Just wondering was there a website you could print out the fractions so you know which are better odds.
    Thanks

It's easy mate. double 6/4 and you get 12/8.. always look at the number that is to the right, so 8 in this instance, and then look at the number to the right of the other fraction which is 4, you now that 8 is two times 4, so multiply 6 by 2 and you get 12, 12 is bigger than eleven so you know 6/4 is greater than 11/8. It's all about bringing the fractions to a level field, 4 is the level field in this case...

Alternatively you can divide 11 by 2, and you get less than 6, so you know 6/4 is greater than 11/8.

Lets do another comparison, 13/8 vs 7/4.. to compare just multiply 7 by 2 (4 by 2 is 8 so you know you are making a good comparison) to get 14/8 vs 13/8, you know 7/4 is greater than 13/8.

It's fairly hard to explain this by typing, it's much easier to explain it in person... whenever you are comparing fractions just always bring them to the same fraction, it's just all multiples of 2. :)

Just kinda the opposite to jonesy there. You could just divide the prices i.e. 6/4 = 1.5 and 11/8 = 1.375 its a bit easier (well to me anyway!!)

You could always make your own chart to bring along if the head aint great at maths.

Just divide the number on the left by the number on the right.

    Eg.

11/8.... Eleven divided by eight is 1.375
6/4.... Six divided by four is 1.5

So 6/4 is the better price.

If you had a handy card with all of divisions, it would be a quick useful guide.

Here is one i made out myself for betfair, so all prices have the stake added, i.e. if you multiply your stake by the Decimal Price, you get your return at said price: €10 @ 2/7 = 10 x 1.286 => €12.86 or €10 @ 33/1 = 10 x 34 => €340
