1-2 Holdem in Athlone

1-2 cash game in the new "casino" in Athlone.

I turn up and there are eight players at a table, I join them and for an hour work very hard on playing aggressively and showing down the odd, odd hand. The game is getting fast and loose.

4 young lads turn up in the casino looking for a game and I am told that I have to go to the new table with them because I was last to join this table. I say I would rather stay where I am. They say it's the rules. I say it's an unusual rule. They try to explain to me that it is another cash table with the same size game. They say it's the rule in any casino. I say it is not and I'll probably just cash out rather than move. They ask if I would like to cash out.

    What's my play?

Anybody like a fold here? As it played out, I cashed out and said that I don't mind them sticking to their rules but that I don't like the rule.

The ex Merrion dealer tried to explain to me that this is how the Merrion did things and the floor man tried to tell me that this is how the Fitz does things. I have only played cash in the Merrion a couple of times. Did they really split up cash tables? I know the Fitz don't.

let the 4 wait until some more punters turn up would be my read - I think the mgt was bluffing and you called

It is the policy in that place. Not sure if it's a rule anywhere else but it is a pain in the ass.

Walk out is the only move.

What was the ex Merrion dealers name? Did you ask who was the floor manager at the time in the Merrion and the Fitz when he saw this "rule" being implemented?

To be honest you have to worry about how other rulings are going to be made if they are getting this so wrong and trying to get their local mates into a game rather than have them wait a few minutes.

Might be better off sticking to the interweb when in Athlone by the sounds of things!!

were they just going to move you and make it one table of 5 and one table of 8? or were they going to move another player off your table to make it 6 and 7?

If its the first option then it sounds like they were trying to make you move because youre not a regular and they thought you'd just do it and not compain.

i dont know what the correct "ruling" is. I would imagine its to make the lads wait for more players.

good fold i reckon. if they treat regulars differently than non-regulars its better to find out that way than if a ruling was called for when money was at stake.

though in their defence, in the fitz you wouldnt have to wait that long for more players to show up. down there on a weeknight they could be waiting all night to get two tables worth of players. in the interest of having a game for everyone maybe they have "special" rules?

In their defence, I was there before and this is their way of doing it. It wasn't a bully the outsider move. Since it is their way of doing it, I respect them rigidly applying their rule. I have no problem with that.

I just don't like the rule.

The guys running the floor seem to believe that this is the way to do it. Last time I was there the dealer (also ex Merrion) joined (very briefly) in the protest at this. Last time though it wasn't me they were trying to move.

    meh...

I guess it's back to the inkturnet for my Athlone trips.

This is called a "must-move" and is perfectly normal in any poker room.

    9. In order to protect an existing game, a forced move may be invoked when an additional game of the same type and limit is started. The must-move list is maintained in the same order as the original waiting list. If a player refuses to move into the main game, that player will be forced to quit, and may not play in the must-move game or get on that list for one hour.

    10. You must play in a new game or must-move game to retain your place on the list, if by your playing there would be three or fewer empty seats.

No. When I arrived there was one game running with 8 players which I joined. Now there is one game running with 9 players. 4 people arrived and I was asked to leave the game with 9 players to join the game with the 4 new players making 5 and 8... well... 5 and 7... one of the 8 was going to be dealing the second game.
