They were talking about Chris DiMarco's incident on World of Golf y'day and it got me thinking...

They only penalised him one shot retrospectively (turnin his bogey 6 into a double) and the lads on WOG thought he was lucky that he wasn't DQ'd. In typical Sky sports fashion, they of course skirted around the issue and didn't really criticise DiMarco in any serious way.

Anyway, I've heard it said before that there are more cheats playing pro golf than you would believe. I can't remember who it was, but I saw a quote from a relatively little known American on the PGA who said something to the effect of "We all know who the cheats are"... There's been smoke around Monty a couple times, Singh had his problems... What do you guys think? Would you say we'd be horrified by the goings on away from cameras (after all, only feature groups are shown on the tv) or is it exaggerated?

BTW - for those who didn't se it - DiMarco was eventually penalised when his ball moved after he had addressed it on the putting green. He clearly was about to tap the putt in (in my opinion) but stepped away from it when the ball moved slightly. He didn't penalise himself at the time (after a lengthy discussion with a rules official and his playing partners) but it appears that he should have...

I think if the ball oscillates-that is -rocks slightly -but does not leave its position its not a penalty. However if it actually rolls even a little after address its penalty time

the main problem here as i see it is
(after a lengthy discussion with a rules official and his playing partners)
if the rules official doesn't know the rules what hope for the players.

Di Marco is a very decent guy.
It was an unfortunate incident but innocuous.
