How much longer can the horrible joke that is the Pat Kenny show last. It is reaching ever lower into the depths of bad tv and no one seems to be saying stop. Maybe if we tell Al Queeda there George Bush lives in RTE we could take out the lot of em - Joe Duffy, Gaybo, That skinny dork that is on Saturday night, Anne Doyle, the dude from Prime Time, The tall guy on the news who thinks he is on CBS the list goes on and on. Do you also think Pat is the pits, Joe must go etc. Leave your spiteful and angry comments after the tone.

Started a similar thread about him not so long ago but wasn't as confrontational as yours but I can relate to it big time, I dont think he can take all the blame, i think the shows producers etc would have to take some of it. I dont think he is half as bad on radio.
I dont mind Joe Duffy, good most of the time, annoying sometimes - but who isn't.
Dont like tubridy( "skiny dork") on radio or tv

Pat Kenny will stay on the television so long as there is older people to watch him. If a survey was to be done on the age profile of his viewers I think you would find a lot of them would be 50 +.

It could be on the tv for another 10, and then if Pat retires RTE will (probably) give it to Tubridy. :rolleyes:

Yeah mainly talking about Pat Kenny's TV show. Are we now saying that everyyone over 50 likes Pat Kenny - it is just a generational thing. That is rubbish. Quality is quality and rubbish is rubbish at any age. Plus I know a lot of people in the 30-40 age group who watches it. Pat would probably call me scum for these comments.

I have grown quite fond of Pat Kenny. He's like your dorky friend who never quite gets it.

He's there interviewing some chick from a girl band and says something like 'So your parents both died last year, that must have been very hard for you.' and you know from his body language that he doesn't give a f*ck and he's doing a really bad job of pretending that he does. He's just reading the next question off the card that his researcher gave him because that's his poxy job and it pays for his 7-series.

And you know what? I don't give a f*ck about her dead parents either - I just want to be entertained and watching this cross betwene Alan Partridge and an Irish Borat is doing the trick nicely. The guests often look fairly uncomfortable with him and that makes it all a bit edgy.

I think a lot of people feel the same way as me and he will be doing his thing until he's virtually dead - like Gay Byrne.

I think it has its roots in the half arsed way the semi state organisation runs in this country. There is no censure for a bad result and no congratulation for a good one. Week after week Pat Kenny doles out crap guest after crap guest and grills them in his own inimitable way - never listening to any of the answers. I think he knows he is crap but as the last poster says it pays for his 7 series. I think it is time however that if he is not going to admit the format does not work and pulls the plug then someone should do it for him. I think I will start an online petition.

The reality is that the old folk (and a lot of the middle aged too) like Plank Kenny and the rest of them that populate the RTE schedules. If you were to replace them with Russell Brand types, I can just imagine the ratings that would follow.

If you dislike him that much, do what most people do and get out of your home before 9.30 on a Friday evening. Or do something constructive. Knocking RTE is such a bore, and personally I think they provide a good service in a small country.

Couldn't agree more - havent seen The Late late for ages, never in on a Friday night and don't bother taping it cos I found it boring. Lots of people do watch it though and I assume enjoy it - so grand!!!! I quite like Tubridy on TV and radio. Mainly my point is I agree with the above post - RTE is a very good station overall. If you don't like a programme don't watch it - get a life.

I don't understand the hostility towards Pat Kenny. Firstly, I think the problem with him is that he's not good at the light hearted celebrity thing. However I don't think he is helped by the fact that the standard of 'celebrity' on the late late is generally very poor. That isn't all pats fault.

On the other hand, I think pat is very good on the serious subjects. Obviously they are what he's really interested in, and personally they are what i'm more interested in also. Whatever anyone says, pat is a smart guy and he generally comes across as knowledgable during the discussions.

At the end of the day, there aren't too many candidates at RTE who would do a better job than pat kenny can do. I feel there would be just as many complainers if tubridy did the late late.

To be honest I agree with most of your points. He is good on radio and I dont personally dislike the guy. However two things I do disagree with
1)The problem is with the crap guests. This is Pats problem he is the main man. if the guests are crap Pat has to take the wrap. How did Gay Byrne get better guests?
2)We should accept the mediocre crap that is there now because there is no one better in RTE to do the show. There may be no one better - if not, cancel the show simple as that.

So sign the petition and lets get going - Pat Kenny out.

At least Pat, unlike Gay, can actually figure out how to turn the toys off.

Gay was producer of the Late Late in his time, so he had stricter quality control regarding guests. Pat is just happy to play shil to whatever Z-list non-entity is flogging product this week.

Kenny was very good in 'serious' current-affairs programming, such as Today-Tonight, but he just has too much stiffness and (dare I say) gravitas to pull-off the Mr.Saturday night routine.

Whatever you say about Kenny hosting the Late Late, it could be worse...it could be much worse. Think Gerry Ryan and offer up a Novena of thanks to the Director General of RTE.
