komplett and SoftThinks

    i have just got a ready built PC from Komplett. It came with antivirus
    and "installation/Recovery software" . I dont want them! The antivirus (Norman) is easy to uninstall but the recovery software called SoftThinks lives in a seperate partition (5 GB odd) at the start of the HD.

    I can't get any imfo on SoftThinks as in what is it and how does it work. Komplett can only tell me that if my Pc suffers a major crash (?) it will pop out and fix everything.

    There is no manual, PDF etc. I have searched the web but with small success.
    Any information advice would be welcome.

    It is a backup, It there so that if anything fails you can reinstall using the backup by pressing a F key at bootup, just like a Packard bell or a similar brand. I would reccomend keeping it. But there should be some info on how to access it in case of a emergency.

    You should get some information there, although I am surprised there aint some documentaion with the PC or on one of the CD's that came with it....

    Thank you very much for the info, what i wish i could find out is what "triggers" this software. In normal operation and booting there is no mention of it. I was only able to find it by using win xp computer management.
    it lives in a 5.05 GB Fat 32 EISA (?) configeration . I assume it is a DOS type setup.

    It is a bit like buying a new house and when asking whats that big locked cupboard being told dont worry when all hell breaks lose in the house something will jump out.

    Sorry about the moaning on but if there is anybody out there that has bought a ready build from komplett and used SoftThinks or got any manuals drop us a hint

    Thank you for your advice people. I got the PC from Komplett after reading what people on this site had to say. I am not disapointed (only 10 days old).

    I had hoped to get away from the DELL / Gateway mass production. Where i worked in london used to by Gateways in large amounts (a university) and their was often problems with how the H/D was set up and non standard windows. Komplett should give information as to what this program is and how it is accessed and i supose i should nag them for it

    the first thing thay used to do was reformat and reload windows
