Just from breaking news, it appears the high court has decided not to extradite this elderly couple to face kidnap charges in the US.

I have to say I'm glad to hear that. The couple seem to be in poor health so its good that the dont have to face these charges, particularly when the childs mother even asked for the whole thing to be dropped.

Could this have further reaching consequenses or will this be the end of it? What do our US friends think of this decision? I applaud the high court for a sensible (IMO) decision.

Seems like a good decision to me because even the child's mother didn`t want any charges pressed. So everyone is happy.

Only in light of the specifics of the case, with the mother of the child not wanting to press ahead, it would be terrible to see elderly ill people forced through the motions for no reason. Other than that, no bearing whatsoever.

They were given legal custody over here, but in the US they were not.

Apperently the family's living conditions over in the US were disturbing for them.
The mother refused the grandparents offer of taking the kid home to Ireland so they took matters into their own hands.

Perhaps they felt it was the only thing they could do.

Surprised that the Homeland (In)Security Department in Bushyland did not declare them terrorists, then rendition them (kidnap them) without going through all the trouble of attempting to extradite.
