Classics in Germany

Had a look on www.mobile.de yesterday. If anyone wants to kill half an hour looking at classics then its worth a look. There is a partial English language conversion on the home page & you can search by make, price range & specify classic vehicle. Saw some nice Escorts, a few nice Opels - especially the GT, a nice looking RHD Mini, loads of Mercs & a few Fiats - one for you Blue850 - a Fiat 850 Coupe (beautiful shape but needs some welding). Some are private postings but some also have links to the Dealer's home page. May be of interest?.

This is how I bought my Merc. I used mobile.de as I had previously used to to import a motorhome from Germany.

    Hi 3ps,

When I was changing my Hymer motorhome earlier in the year I had picked out a few on Mobile.de. Easy to fly from Kerry to Frankfurt-Hahn. I was a bit chicken on carrying all that cash. I was almost set to go when I trawled Buy&sell one evening before leaving work & saw the model I was looking for in Ireland. Private sale but had been imported from Germany. Bought it for a similar price to Germany taking in to account my travel, accomodation etc. so I was happy enough.

    Good site

The model I wanted isn't overly popular here (Knaus) so I went over. It was a fun trip anyway!!

I transferred the cash in advance to a (Hymer) dealer. Driving the behemoth home after never having driven anything bigger than a car was some experience!

It goes to show, the Continent is the best place to find good cars :D , that's where I have been sourcing all my cars since 1997 !!!

I have of course the advantage of physically being able to check them out and over the years I have come to get to know a good few of the specialists out here in Holland, Belgium and Germany. As with everything there are some very good ones, but there are also some very bad ones that are best avoided!!

I have visited the guys from De L'Est a couple of times, and they are amongst the very best, which is ofcourse reflected in their prices... but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for": buying a cheaper example doesn't neccesarily make it a better buy. It all depends on what exactly you are looking for and high a standard you want to acquire, i.e. how much are you willing to put up with/live with.

The cars on the "Photo Archive" section of De L'est certainly look excellent. Might have seen some of them on your site, Paul - maybe the 124 sports coupe. Their prices are a bit dear but as you said, you gets what you pay for!!. I think you are right on the quality of the cars from Europe but I guess there are some ropey ones there as well. Once left hand drive is not a problem.
