Ok guys i know i can get it cheaper online but has anyone got any experience of them and i dont really mind paying 1060 Euro cause i liked the attitude of gunns, Cathy was lovely on the phone. Plus she will throw in a UV filter.

Yep ... ac-foto are fine ... there is a rant about buying overseas from me on the Canon pricing sticky thread ... last page or two ... includes infor on my experiences doing it ...

I would recommend using them again ...

If you want to get cheaper again then go for kea photo on EBAY ... Fajitas and Rymus use 'em ... as do others whose name eludes me (440Hz) ... I just made my first purchase form them today ... price is €872

    try this -

I have only had the lens a few weeks but it is very sharp with lovely colour saturation. It will be the summer before it gets a full workout. The Gunns price is really good for an Irish supplier. I faid around€1000 incl postage from TechnikDirekt in Germany. If I knew Gunns were doing it for that price I would have bought it there.

Technikdirekt prices took a bit of a jump recently, I'm assuming because they've started charging Irish VAT at 21% instead of the (current) German rate of 16%. The Sigma 10-20 I was looking at was previously priced at €454 but is now €474, which when you add their €22 shipping fee brings it practically back up to Irish street prices.

I do a lot of business with Cathy ... she is very good ...

did she tell you that Canon are likely to drop their prices in Ireland in the new year ?

I heard that Sigma has adjusted their prices not too long ago

that's interesting .. I hadn't heard that. The new price though is exactly (old price / 1.16) * 1.21, so that's rather too close to be coincidence. Also my Nikon SB-800 flash I bought back in June has gone up by almost exactly the same amount.

i have the 24-105 L f/4 L IS USM and it's been on my camera generally speaking all the time since i got it - middle of June last. The Image Stabilisation is great, it's a great all rounder lens that'll cope well in almost any situation. The only other L lens that would compete with this in it's class would be the 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM. I decided on the 24 - 105 because of the longer reach and the IS

it's even that bit more impressive on a full frame :)

Sounds like a great lens, but I'm very used to the basic 18-55 on my new 30D. I take a lot of pictures of presentations so the wide angle is great.

Would the tighter angle be a big loss???

not a huge loss, you'd have to stand back a little ok!
when I used this lens on the EOS 350D because of the Field of View Crop Factor the wide angle wasn’t as apparent as on the full frame I have now, however it’s sharpness in comparison to the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens is excellent. But even with FOVCF you can get in a considerable amount of a scene
some other features are it’s Full Time Manual Focusing i.e. you can have auto focus turned on all the time and manually focus without switching to MF this is handy where you auto focus then recompose only to find the focus has shifted somewhat because of the re-compose etc.

It gives great blurred image quality (bokeh - foreground/background blur) especially around 100mm with close subjects.

The USM auto focus is very quiet and quick

Have you tried Bermigham's? I was happy with them on my new purchase and their prices seem to be good

€ 874 from Photo and More in Wiesbaden. You'd have to check though for lead time?
